Living on the Mountain

Well, just a minute ago I was staring at the boards, wondering why the heck I was back here. This was why. I really neaded this right now. Lady, I remember you from a year ago when i quit. I remember, in all my naivite, thinking that you were hanging onto the adiction too tightly if you were still troubled after a year. Now here I am - One year later and thinking that this has been the worste year of my entire life. I said, through all of the craves, the anxiety, the depression, the withdrawls, the incresed bloos sugar, the raised blood pressure, the medication increse, the being put on insulin, THE WEIGHT GAIN, the withdrawls, the fights, the physical pain - this has been trully the worste year of my life. I fear death for the first time in my life. My health is the worste it's ever been in my entire life. I said a while back that i'd give it a year. That was it - one year. If I was still suffering after a year, all promisses were off - I could choose to stay quit or start again. It will be a year in just a few days, and I guess that i came here as a last ditch effort to find one darned reason not to go buy a pack of ciggarettes. If there is a reason - this is it. Hope. You had it hard as well - To my knowledge, you didn't et all the health problems, but you had it rough. So... Maybe i'll give it another year. *sigh* The way I feel now, i'm not sure i'll even live through another year. Craving today for next week!

It's good that you see that crave ahead of time, before you're there. I saw this post one time that i'll never forget. A woman had been quit over a year, and she went out to dinner with her griend. She and said friend had always smoked together and they hadn't been out to dinner since she had quit. Friend lit up, and she reached over, grabbed the cig, and took a puff before she even knew what she was doing, and that was it. She was a smoker again. This way you can make a plan. l have a question..

Congrats on day 1!! WOW! I went through what you did before I quit - when I cut down. That was actually how I decided to quit cold turkey instead of using the patches I had bought. I could tell that putting "some" nicotine in my body was going to be harder on me than just getting it out and being done with it. diclaimer: that's not a dig on NRT - whatever works, works! Major Mental Illness and Quitting Smoking

I don't really have any answers for you, but just wanted to let you know that I understand. Your first quit was the same time as I quit, so i remeber all the problems you've had. We diabetics have a very hard time quitting, you know. Throw some mental illness in the equasion and it's really very painful. I have found that my health is far far FAR FAR FAR worse than it ws prior to quitting. Living on the Mountain

Hey ladybugg - i'm on messenger now, but can't figure out how to add you. This whole place has changed so much, and my old identity didn't even seem to exist. LOL Anyhow, thanks for thinking of me - i'm alright for right now - going to get to bed and feel better tomorrow. I'm just really struggling with the fact that my health is so darn much worse now than it was a year ago. You now? I didn't meen for my post to be so life-sucking. I just wanted Lady to know how much her post gave me some hope. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 353 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,061 Amount Saved: $3,265.25 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 18 Mins: 7 Seconds: 26

Letter in Todays Daily Telegraph (UK)

Wow good going, Phil! I didn't understand much of your letter LOL, but grats on getting your feelings out there and giving people so much to think about. We just implemented a smoking ban here in Arizona. You can't smoke inside anywhere, or within 20 feet of the entrance of any business. The 20 feet thing is the real life-saver. You know, all smokers are just a toking away on their way into the store, because they know they will start withdrawls before they're done shopping. Then they light up on the way out the door. I used to just really feel asaulted with smoke everytime I went in anywhere, just with breathing around the doorway. You know? So, i'm glad they did the 20 feet part. I was in utah a few months back and they had the no smoking within 20 feet law and that was such a breaht of fresh air - pun intended. Not any better after 158 days

I used to be a pet groomer, too. Man - everyone I worked with smoked.. I never really thought about it until right now, but those pups must have left smelling like an ashtray.
