I started Chantix a month ago and have now been free of cigs for two weeks. I did go through withdrawals the first week and I continued smoking anyway - sort of a habit thing. It gave me no pleasure at all anymore and I finally just said...WTH..and I was done.
I went out one night and a beer seemed to go hand in hand with a cig. I smoked. The next day.....haven't smoked since. I couldn't care less about them. Yes, occassionally there will be this pang - afterall I smoked for almost 29 years! It was a part of my life but I find that I gave it way too much importance and significance to my mental well-being. I feel much better physically and mentally now than I have since I was...well...maybe 12!!
One thing that does bug me about the Chantix: my joints ache like crazy in the morning and my sinuses are stuffed. Every single day I get up like a 90 year old woman and it takes me a few minutes to get in gear. Does this ever go away? Not much coughing to speak of though.

HI Audrey,
I'm in Charlotte :)
Actually I remember all my wild dreams. Last night Charles Bronson and Tim Allen both hit on me! lol How about that for wild?? Anyway....
My doc said I might be getting some side-effects, such as nausea, but I haven't really been bothered with that too much. As long as I eat with the pill I'm fine.
I took the starter week, then three at 2 mg a day (morning and eve). The taste of cigarettes immediately changed but the habit of smoking them did not. I was so used to smoking with certain activities. Like, talking on the phone, cruising the net, driving, after dinner, you know...
I stopped on day 8 the first time and that lasted 2 days. Smoked for another three and stopped again. Weekends are rough because I have more free time, so I am constantly trying to find stuff to do. But truly, the crazy days of quitting cold turkey never happened. It was an UNlearning process but I think I'm fine now.
PS. Yes it is horrible out today. Where did the sun go??? :(

Talk about divine reminder! I went to the grocery store today and there was an older gentleman coming toward me. When he got closer I noticed he had the larynx surgery (where they talk out of the throat after cancer removal) and I thought to myself...."There by the grace of God could go I!"
I have never met anyone with this condition before and perhaps this was a coincidence but it removed any craving I had immediately.
