Rd Man The Quit and all the Stories

Oh my God Phil....what can I say? What a couple of basket cases we are. Unbelievable. Hang in there yourself!! I'm sure a year from now, this will make us laugh....and that's about as much optimism as I can pull off at this moment. One man's opinion on "the quit meter"

yeah, yeah Phil....(re:ruebens) it's the only time I'll eat sauerkraut too although it( the rueben analogy of this opinion and life) must have the crusty, heated rye on the outside to be complete- I hate soggy lukewarm rye bread in my rueben!!!! So everyone, when I post, just say "oh there he goes again with his crusty ruebenesque view of life....will he ever embrace the inner parts of this sandwich?" And maybe Duffis is correct in that I will mature in my quit (my words follow)into a fine, hearty pumpernickel swirl of ...(guess I'm out of bs!) Oh well, this thread has been fun, but alas, all things must come to an end.(everyone sighs and thanks their personal deities) nope! Why ? Why is it hard to stop smoking? Why do you want to smoke another cigarette?

So true- the mind game of it all. Regarding the book you mentioned and that topic, I am constantly at odds with myself regarding the patch (I'm on the second level now)and the cold-turkey idea. I know, though, that I (like the spouse mentioned earlier) could not have made it through the first week without it. Theoretically, you wean down gradually, more gently. Then there's the other view. I am still using nicotine ,thus prolonging withdrawal versus theoretically cleaning it out in 3 days and getting it over with. There doesn't seem to be much data to significantly support one over the other. Depends what the source is, too. Both make sense. Is it just a mind game? Interesting about the need to reprogram one's whole adult life (in my case). That's unnerving! My adult life was so entangled in cigarettes. (uncomfortable, yet....exciting) Really, it's a major pain in the ass, but I'm glad I'm doing it! THE SLIPPING GAME CONT'D

All right Phillip and Duffis.....if you want to see some grey, I'll send you a picture of myself. I just painted my bathroom two shades of grey. It was grey outside the last 3 days (Rochester NY). Maybe I'm starving for some black and white!!! I know, I know. Glad you see some humor in it, just the same! One man's opinion on "the quit meter"

Always a heated discussion- this one. Shevie, I do see your point and you're probably a nicer person than me, but you did give bad examples: Cheating gets you kicked out of school and there is a huge issue of survival if one falls 2/3 up Everest. Anyway, this is an interesting thread, if nothing else can be said for my opinion. Keep up the good work no matter what. This day cannot end soon enough!

indy- there's a lot of support on this site. 8 days is amazing; I think most would say the worst is over by then. Just wanted to say hi

Sounds like a plan! Lots of support in this place. It's really helped me, and that's saying something. It's only 33 days for me, but I can absolutely say it is so worth it. Day 1 and overwhelmed already. HELP!

Well, I was an ICU RN who smoked- almost as bad. Hey- at least no one has to explain to you what smoke does to the respiratory tract! It is tough. I assume you're in your 20's. I sure wish I quit then so I wouldn't have to go through this now. And you're right- your peers will snear at you, ESPECIALLY these days. C'mon, you can do it. You'll get a lot of support here. Excessive Gas

oh good- glad to see my post about bm's wasn't so bad; and especially glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing the farts of doom. BM's and other such things

Yes- this thread is about that, but it is funny...at least I think so. I've told my friends this and they all laugh. Anyways- I will never say my **** doesn't stink; or my farts, or even my urine. Since I quit and (apparently) don't have the smoke to mask these odors in the bathroom, I am just about killing myself when I must "void". Now I realize that nurses are notorious for being cavalier about such topics and I hope this is not offensive (hey- at least I can't email you a sample fart to sniff with this!!!), but has anyone else noticed this? Gawd- must make sure the air freshener is there. Unreal. I suspect I'm not the only one. More likely one of the few to not have enough decency to not mention it!! Oh well- good for a laugh.
