Hi Everybody

My name is Steve, and I quit smoking on Sunday 15th January this year :) I'm going "Cold Turkey"... am my cravings have been all over the place... sometimes very low, at other times (especially during the first 5 days) I could have almost killed for a ciggie! Anyway, that's me! Hi Everybody

Thanks Casey (and everyone else!) I went through the online quit program, and did my first day's daily progress :) It's great to see so many others here who have the cravings, temptations, etc... and get through it :) Steve My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 87 Amount Saved: 16.8 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 6 Mins: 19 Seconds: 2

I slipped end of day - 6

Dreamer, Hang on in there... the first week is hell, and then the second week is less hell (that's where I'm at now!).... As someone else pointed out, smoking doesn't actually relieve stress... and let's face it, the stress will be there whether you smoke or not. I don't know if you used the Quit Program on this site (steps 1-5), but if you didn't, I'd recommend it now. If you did, re-read the reasons you wrote there for why you want to give up. Also, remember the reward you promised yourself for the end of the first week... you are so close to it! Keep posting here, and letting us know how you are doing... even if you feel tempted, having to "own up" here is good - because people here can give you advice, plus they are non-judgemental, plus it's anonymous... not like having to admit to a friend in the Real World. New Here as of today

Hi Jessica! Well done on setting a date to quit. As others have said, use the program here - I went through it a week after I had quit, as I only just found it, and found it very useful. It will help you to think of *why* you want to quit, mechanisms for coping with those horrible ol' cravings, how to prepare for quitting, how you are going to reward yourself after a week, a month, etc.- plus you can have a daily record of how you are getting on once you do quit. There are some wonderful ideas there, and the answers you gave can be revisited to remind you of them! Also, post in th4ese forums whenever you feel tempted... looking at what has been written here, they are non-judgemental, friendly, and (for some people very important) anonymous, unlike your friends, who you might be embarrassed to admit you felt tempted. Many of us have quit more than once... the important thing is that you want to quit, and you keep trying... this will be the time you succeed! new to this and looking for help

jspv, Well done on getting to your third day! Remember - that is an achievement in and of itself... I don't know the figures, but an awful lot of people quit *before* 3 days.... "i know i can make it this time" - damn right you will, my friend :) Take it one day at a time... follow the advice on this site... giving yourself a weekly reward? You're half-way to it :) Whenever you need to have a cry, shout, or whatever... come here and do it to people who understand what you are going through :) Steve My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 126 Amount Saved: 25.2 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 45 Seconds: 15

hi new to site

phillipa, welcome to the site :) Congrats on trying again.... some of us have to try a few times before we finally get there... but it is something which is always worth trying to do... and with this site, you have a support team - we know what you are going through, we are here for you, we won't judge you. This is my 3rd attempt as well - in '02 I gave up for 3 months, in '04 I gave up for 6 days, and in '06 I'm currently up to 12 smoke-free days.... Just hang on in there :) Steve My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 126 Amount Saved: 25.2 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 45 Seconds: 55

Newbie here!

Hey, Malibu, well done on being clean for 4 days :D The craving is awful during the first week... but hang on in there, you're going to get through it... The craving in the second week is much less... and I know from when I last gave up a couple of years ago that it gets less and less... You just need to get past this first week.. and you are doing so well for getting this far... Just remember that you've got a lot of people here to support you - people who know exactly what you are going through, who won't judge you - but one big advantage of this group compared to my friends is that they don't actually know me personally, so I can talk about how I feel without feeling embarrassed :) Steve My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 126 Amount Saved: 25.2 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 44 Seconds: 46

Newbie here!

Pearl Lady, I laughed out loud at "I never brought into the "3 days". For me it has laways been longer than 3 days." - I think a lot of us know exactly where you're coming from on that one. However, the *physical* addiction does last 3 days... unfortunately, your brain doesn't know that for some reason! Congrats on giving up... and remember, there's a lot of us here to help you when you need someone :) Oh, @Big T... I've noticed how awful the smokers I work with smell as well... and to think that I used to be like that just a few days ago! Scared and nervous

Hi Faithfully... welcome to the group! It's great that you want to quit... ake the time to go through the online program here - it'll help you to focus on the reasons and benefits for quitting. Once the big day is here, keep looking in the forums, and posting... they're a nice lot in here, you know... and very supportive! Many of us have tried before, but remember... this *will* be the time you will succeed!
