Are you an honest quitter?

N2k, I will never slip.. no fears there. If I ever decided to smoke again, you would simply never see me here again.. :8o: But don't lose any sleep over that either. It will be a cold day in hell before that happens.. :p Be Strong. Be Smart. DAY - 2

Dreamer, Congratulations on your decision to quit and welcome to our group. As you can see, this is a diverse group of quitters with quits that range from 1 day to multiple years. The only common thread is our desire to quit. We have all put our own twists on our quits and have all had unique withdrawal issues. But through it all, we remain quit. That is the bottom line. Smoking is an addiction and when you realize that you will have learned the secret to quitting. I tell all new quitters that it takes 4 things to quit... 1. Strength 2. Determination 3. Commitment 4. A positive Attitude You have all four. Draw on your inner strength, be uncompromisingly determined, hold fast to your commitment and persue your quit with the "can do" attitude that comes from your desire to take your life back. Focus on the moment. Don't worry about being quit tomorrow. Just be quit for today, this hour, this minute. Being quit is a new lifestyle. You will have to relearn coping methods, how to fill the time void left from not taking the time to suck down filthy smoke into your lungs. Look for new things to do. This is an exciting time for you as you embark on the journey of life. Best wishes. Be Strong. Be Smart. Not getting support from my husband :(

Denisey, It always kills me when I see someone post that their spouse doesn't give a crap about them, their quit, their own health, etc, due to this wretched addiction. The fact that there are smoking spouses who refuse to at least step outside to feed their addiction speaks volumes about their ignorance. I realize that divorcing someone because they refuse to smoke outside is probably not sufficient grounds, but man, oh man, what does that really tell you about the smoker? What does it tell you about where you sit in their priority list? I'll tell you where.. Number 2 behind their cigarettes, that's where. Not a pretty place to be, but many here seem perfectly happy to accept that place. The only recourse you have is to ignore him and his smoking. I know.. easier said than done, but also realize he has a weakness that you no longer have. You have made the decision to break free from this addiction and I applaud you. Lead by example and show him what being quit is all about. You can do this. We are here for you. Best wishes. Be Strong. Be Smart. newbkr, Hang tough girl. We are here for you. This race is run at your pace so just start when you want to and throttle it up when the moment is right. N.O.P.E.

mrsrobinson942, Here is an idea... have the international No Smoking symbol tattooed across your mouth! Some folks may not know what N.O.P.E. means! Hell, then you can appear on the Jerry Springer show! He can have a contest for the best/worst tattoos! What a concept! In case you need a sample, here is one.... Not getting support from my husband :(

Rusty, I never said a smoker can't love their non smoking spouse with all their heart. I'm sure your husband loves you just fine. The point is that when a living situation changes, such as when one spouse quits smoking, the other should make the effort to respect the others quit and to no longer smoke in the commonly shared dwelling. Even the addict knows that smoking is not healthy. All you are doing is subjecting yourself to a strong dose of second hand and first hand smoke. How smart is that? It isn't smart and when a spouse has the opportunity to support the others quit by smoking outside, they should take that opportunity. To not do that, to continue to smoke in the commonly shared dwelling and around the non/ex smoker is the ultimate expression of disrespect. This is 2006, not 1946. The facts about smoking are well documented. Believe what you want. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. Be Strong. Be Smart. Dreamer, You said... "My girlfriend says every time we get an urge to smoke, lets make love... Well its working.... Maybe this could be the ultimate solution, distract our selves from what we really want...." Wow.. so you'd sooner smoke than make love???? That's one hell of an addiction you've got there Dreamer!! :8o: Be Strong. Be Smart. Coping with Cravings

JamieUS, Congratulations on your decision to quit and welcome to the SSC. Life has no consideration for what a person goes through initially when they quit smoking. These first couple of weeks won't be any fun but stay focused, stay strong. You are doing the right thing. Keep reminding yourself of that. Here is a little quote for you to keep things in perspective... "May we never let the things we can't have, or don't have, or shouldn't have, spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it, for one of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have." Richard L. Evans Stay strong. As time passes you will find that your quit will get easier and easier. Trust me on that one. Get over the hump. Be sure to look at the quit program here. You may also visit whyquit dot com for a real eye opener on the lie that smoking is. We are here for you. Best wishes. Be Strong. Be Smart. 100 day cravings/1 year cravings! U gotta be kidding!!!!!

smog... I've got dibs on "masters of the macho!!" :p QuitOrDie, you know when you read a warning on a prescription medication is lists every conceivable reaction someone has had. When quitting it's the same thing.. there are tons of ways people will react to and experience their quits. The common thread is that we are all nicotine addicts who are simply in recovery. To think that we will never again have a taste or feeling for a cigarette ever again is unrealistic. You just deal with it. Life goes on. That is my approach. I don't smoke anymore and that is that. The nicodemon can kiss my ***. 'Nuff said! Be Strong. Be Smart.
