smoking families

I am 26, and both my parents smoke. My dad quit when I was about 13 or so, and then he started again a few years ago. My mom hass smoked since she was in her early teens. I started smoking when I was about 14. My sister (age 24) does not smoke. She has smoked before when she drinks a lot out with the girls, but that's the extent of it. She never seems to "need" a cigarette. My brother (age 17) smokes....but he doesn't smoke cigarettes.... Update On Me, and Some Questions

Hi Ang, I was speaking with a friend here at the office today about quitting smoking, and she told me a story about how one of her friends quit... you know those translucent filters? they look like the filters on cigars? well, apparantly he bought 25 of them (one for each cigarette in a pack) and used them at the end of each cigarette in the pack. When he quit, he just looked at all the junk in the filters that would have ended up in his lungs. Eww. 3, 7, 10 days and counting....

waywardwind, I did the exact same sort of thing...I only thought about getting through the next 5 minutes. The idea of never ever having a cigarette ever again seemed entirely too daunting when I decided to quit, so I took it in 5 minute increments. I won't smoke for 5 minutes. (5 minutes later) I won't smoke for 5 minutes. (5 minutes later) I won't smoke for 5 minutes. and now it's 6 1/2 weeks since I quit! ;p You're doing great - congrats on 9 healthy days!!
