Disclosure to work

I had a good response from coach and manager at work when I told them of my depression. One confided that they had just come through a very difficult time at home. The other recommended LifeWorks. So here I am, on my first day in this Depression Centre.

Depressed for 30 years

I have been taking anti-depression meds for more than 20 years. It has made a big difference. One can learn to manage depression. Sure there are ups and downs. Sometimes I have to remember to take better care of myself. The good news is that I have always been able to recover from the downs. Yes I have recently joined this group because I have entered a down period. I am telling myself that I have always been able to get the depression under control in the past, so I can do it again. I had a visit with Doctor today, she is compassionate, she listens and takes a professional approach. I am a very determined woman and have always been able to get myself out of problems in spite of the underlying depression. There is just so many interesting things that live can offer.

Group Discussion on Session 1

When I first read your message, a couple of days ago, I had wished I had the skills to write something that would bring you comfort. My depression symptoms are different than your own. I mostly just feel sick, I can only describe it as feeling like I am due to come down with the flu or a bad cold. Perhaps your feelings of being trapped is your body's way of telling you to take steps to work on things that will pull you out of depression. Sending best wishes for your recovery.

Hello from another person looking for relief from depression

I have been following this program for 10 days. While I am finding this an interesting exercise, I am still counting the days till a new Med the Doctor has provided kicks in. I am not good at reaching out to others for help. I like to think of myself as a high functioning depressed person. I go to work, I try to be cheerful, I do interesting things. BUT inside I am working hard to get everything I expect of myself accomplished. I probably just think I am hiding it well. Perhaps others know and I am just kidding myself. Began to be very anxious about 6 weeks ago. Having a harder time coping with a sometimes stressful job. My depression gives me the feeling that I am coming down with the flu, yet I know I am not. Very tired feeling, shaky and lots of heart burn. I learned this spring that the noise of all the other people in my work space, can really stress me out. I thought the discovery of the cause would help me control the feelings. Had high hopes of the work place becoming quieter when the temporary university students went back to class. Yes there was a quiet week, then the room filled up again with full timers who had been pushed out of my area by the student project. Now I believe it is louder than it was before. I think the goals worksheet might help me out, as I choose the goal of spending more time with my horse. I had not spent much time with the horse over the past year. Mostly I just took care of her needs of food, shelter and making sure she was healthy. So one of my goals is to just have some fun with the horse. No expectations of accomplishing any great training goals. Just to have play time. Wish me luck.

Hello from another person looking for relief from depression

What is mindfulness? Sleep is usually easy for me. Diet has been less healthy this last two weeks. I know that I have been trying to eat to make myself feel better. Usually try to have lots of fruits and vegetable. Lately have gone for the snack machine at work, hoping that a chocolate fix will add some energy. For relaxing I play card games on the computer and listen to music.

Hello from another person looking for relief from depression

Had a very good day today, I sure needed one. Sunny and warm weather inspired me to work on flowerbeds then played with horse for awhile. Felt very pleased with my accomplishments. For my pleasant activity, I have a long soak in the tub. Sure am tired now, have not done that much physical activity in the past couple of weeks.

Intro & Questions.

Hello Catsndogs, I saw your questions, so you must be in the right place. I am new here. I find that the Health Educator logs on every few days and answers question and offers advice. I have a depression type that causes a lot of anxiety as well. I also have a pill for when the anxiety gets out of hand. Lorazepam, I used to call it my fear of flying pill, because that is what I used it for in the past. I use it much in the way you do. I too have concerns about becoming dependant on it. I want to be able to learn how to control my anxiety and identify earlier when anxiety is beginning in me. Hang in there, you should get some answers soon.

Hello from another person looking for relief from depression

Oct 17 was the best day I have had in weeks. Relaxed about going and being at work. Felt like smiling. Told a joke. Asked a co worker her opinion on something. Felt good till about 4 pm. can not identify the cause. It started in the usual way with heart burn, then tense and anxious. Perhaps just getting tired and keen to go home. In spite of the late afternoon blues, I had the best day at work in 4 months.

Challenging Core Beliefs with Rational Ones

What you were saying reminds me of my father. Frequently I hear myself thinking that a task that I am doing could or might not meet with my father's approval. Especially when he died 7 years ago. Here I am, worried about meeting the approval of someone who could not give it in life, let alone now! I will be adding this to my list of negative thoughts that need to be challenged.
