Challenging Social Anxiety

Hi Ya Jason:

Welcome to the group.

How can you challenge this when you think you are less than people, defective since my emotional roller coaster began in 2007?

I find I am so anxious in any occasion where there is people it's unreal.  I take ages to get out of the house, try to find the right thing to wear, wonder what people will think of me.  I waste so much time just trying on different clothes and trying to literally push myself out the door.  And to top it off I have roseacea which in this humid weather shows up as having an extremely red face and the sweat just pouring down my face.  In the past I have even had a stranger come up & ask me if I had sunburn - a complete stranger!  I just want to run away, this is the worst I have ever been.

Diva's rainy days...

Hi Ya Diva:

In reading your posts I too can feel your pain, my thoughts are with you.

I really think it would be helpful for you to speak with someone face to face that could offer support and advice.  I'm not sure where you live but here in Canada psychotherapists fees are covered by our health coverage "OHIP", we don't have to pay for their services as individuals.  How about your meds could they be causing the exhaustion ?  Have you thought about going to your GP ?

Diva please let some kind of health professional know how you are feeling.

I read something a while ago, it goes something like this.  "It gets worse before it gets better".  So maybe this is the worst of it & it's onward and upward from now on.

Take care

Words of encouragement

Hi Ya All:

I don't know if I would qualify this as success story but to be honest with you I just didn't know where to post it.  I guess it might go under the topic of reflection or encouragement.

I know I have picked out a couple in the list that personally relate to me & I will be putting this up on my wall for further reflection.

I found it on a depression self-help site, not sure I can mention the name.

encouraging list

This is the kind of list everyone should print and put up Some place visible so you can read it every day.

 1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

 4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

Words of encouragement

Hi Ya All:

Gotcha wondering eh Diva - the most important organ is of course the brain.  I wonder if they are doing brain transplants now days, I wouldn't mind a new one that doesn't have a tendency to drive me round the bend.

And now finally the complete list of words of encouragement.

Thank-you Ashley for your assistance.

Why is getting help for depression important?

Hi Ya:

I know exactly what's holding me back, being terrified of the possible side effects of anti-depressants.  I have done way too much research on them.

Don't get me wrong I never downplay the role of medication for individuals because I know people who the meds work for.  It's the things that could possibly happen,  I'm way to frightened to take the risk.
