Hi there. Just popped in to say hi. I am JDK and I apparently scored 55 on the test here, which isn't that great I know. I guess it means that I am probably depressed then.
In fact the reason I am here is because I was pointed here by people at the sister site SSC. I have quit smoking for 211 days now (just over 7 months) and ever since day 1 have been showing signs of depression. I try to keep it under control but obviously haven't been doing so well at it.
I guess it is very very likely that smoking used to hide my depression. I probably don't think cutting out my entire social life in order to stay quit helped my mood much either. This may sound a bit extreme, but it was the only way I have managed to stay smokefree.
Just like my quitting, I am doing this cold turkey. I am not on any medications whilst I am here.
So on to week one of the DC sessions for me. I already know that I am rubbish at keeping a mood chart/schedule thingy as I have done many before (I have many many books on the subject). However, I will always continue to give these things a go.
What I am hoping the most is that reading here doesn't depress me even further and make me decide to start smoking again. I know that is a possibility but I am willing to take a gamble.
Anyway. I hope everyone is having a good friday.
Kind Regards
JDK
Hi Lady, thanks for my replying to my first post here. I should be on the same lines as you with regards to the depressed smoker thinking however I still get an inkling that if I try really hard to forget that I quit then I would not be depressed. I guess I could be a few years behind you in my quit though so may be my thinking will change soon. Smoking and emotion masking are definitely linked.
Thanks for being honest about the solutions, I had a feeling there was no magic pill. In fact I have so many books on depression and stress and feeling good it is unreal. I already know I will have major troubles filling out the 'Mood Tracker Schedule Thingy' in session 1 as I flit from thing to thing and often forget about such admin. So possibly I could have failed at the first hurdle. Maybe if I only manage to record 1 thing then it may still be enough. I guess I will find out in a week.
Glad you are managing all this smokefree though Lady. I hope I am up for the fight too.
Hi Bear,
Just thought I would drop by and see how your doing today.
Glad you didn't relapse.

Hi Freemom,
Great a music thread. Now I can give back properly :)
Working on your musical taste How about...
Avril Lavigne - The best damned thing (actually a really happy album.)
Green Day - early stuff (punky)
Offspring - Smash (punky)
B52's - Bouncing off the Satellites (happy happy happy)
Evanescence - The Open Door (quite rocky)
Metallica - St Anger (your lifestyle determines your deathstyle)
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour (for the energetic walking - I defy you not to move to it)
...and that is just for starters. Let me know if you want more.

A weekend parade. Cool.
Count me in.
p.s. my reward for completing week 1 turned up today (a bit late). After several tries I finally got a pair of running shorts that did not make me look like a courier for a fruit and veg store.

Another quit song I thought of : Queen - I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
Youre so self satisfied I dont need you
Ive got to break free
God knows God knows I want to break free
Ive fallen in love
Ive fallen in love for the first time
And this time I know its for real
Ive fallen in love yeah
God knows God knows Ive fallen in love
Its strange but its true
I cant get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure
When I walk out that door
Oh how I want to be free baby
Oh how I want to be free
Oh how I want to break free
But life still goes on
I cant get used to living without living without
Living without you by my side
I dont want to live alone hey
God knows got to make it on my own
So baby cant you see
Ive got to break free
Ive got to break free
I want to break free yeah
I want I want I want I want to break free....

An upbeat one, with upbeat music too (by Drake Bell).
"I Found A Way"
I never thought that it'd be so simple but
I found a way, I found a way
I always thought that it'd be too crazy but
I found a way, I found a way
If you open up your mind
See what's inside
It's gonna take some time, to realize
But if you look inside, I'm sure you'll find
Over your shoulder you know that, I told you
I'll always be pickin' you up when you're down
So just turn around
Now that I know that anything's possible
I found a way, I found a way
No one can break what is so unbreakable
I found a way, I found a way
If you open up your mind
See what's inside
It's gonna take some time, to realize
But if you look inside, I'm sure you'll find
Over your shoulder you know that I told you
I'll always be pickin' you up when you're down
So just turn around
...relates to this site no end.
Kind Regards
Kev

You mean Britney Spears wasn't singing about beating her nicotine cravings in 'Hit me baby, one more time'? :D
OK, I can't remember the words. But Guns 'N' Roses 'The Garden' is a song about dealing with addiction I believe :
You know you're all alone
Your friends they aren't at home
Everybody's gone to the garden
As you look into the trees
You can look but you don't see
The flowers seem to tease you at the garden
Everybody's there, but you don't seem to care
What's it with you man, and this garden
Turned into my worst phobia,
A crazy man's utopia
If you're lost no one can show ya,
But it sure was glad to know ya
Only poor boys take a chance,
On the garden's song and dance,
Feel her flowers as they wrap around,
But only smart boys do without
