Yoohooo Koneko

Hey all, just thought I'd throw a little update!

I went to see the doctor, there's nothing wrong, just a post nasal drip caused by allergies.  The doc said that I was probably exascerbating the situation due to my anxiety.  Post nasal drip makes it feel like food is getting stuck.  He told me there's not tons you can do for post nasal drip either but food is definately not getting stuck, it's just the awful mucous at the back of the throat making that awful feeling.  He also said the white lumps in tonsils are normal in small amounts, I have large tonsils for my size I guess so I get a little more than average but they're healthy, my throat looks healthy.  He's not going to put me on anxiety medication due to my age and feels that I'm better off working it out myself since I'd have to wean off the medication eventually anyway.

Since seeing the doctor yesterday though it made me feel tons better that it's not something medical and I've been able to eat whatever I've wanted since yesterday!  I had a tiny bit of trouble with some salad today but I ate a good amount of it, I wouldn't have touched salad before.  He recommended that I eat smaller portions throughout the day.

I really feel like just one day made a world of difference though, my fiancee offered me some of his poached eggs last night and I ate it, I wouldn't have been able to do that before.  I think I would have flat out refused them   Had 2 pieces of cheesecake and been munching on BBQ chips all day (bad bad bad but I've been craving them for a good while, thought I'd spoil myself!)  That's not all I've had today either so I don't feel super guilty munching on junk.

It's pretty amazing what a few words from a professional can do for you!  I'll still avoid popcorn probably forever, can't stand the kernels but I've never been able to stand them   I still have the anxiety to deal with of course but I don't think it will be as bad if the rest of my days turn out like today has so far!

I think I really just needed to hear from someone that it really was just anxiety and not something else.  Now I can take the time and deal with just anxiety and not compound it by thinking that it's something else.  I think my worry over it being something medical was making it worse than it really was.

Thanks for your comments

I had a minor panic attack...

Ooooh yes.  Swallowing/choking is what brings on my panic attacks and that feeling you get is the whole reason I'm here!    It's terrible when it happens and even worse when it doesn't go away for days on end.  Trying to relax and thinking of other things really helps with it though, watching TV, having a relaxing bath etc.

It does go away though!  You really have to push yourself to focus on something else, it's pretty hard sometimes but totally doable.  The longer you think about it, the worse it gets!  It's definately just a symptom of panic and your tongue isn't really swelling, it's hard to remind ourselves that sometimes though, really hard.

Glad you had a great anxious free day!  You're definately not alone here!

Thought I should post here...

So I guess I have a little success story of my own

It's been a good week now and the only panic attack I've had all week was when eating burger, I'm avoiding hamburger for now (which isn't a total success but...)  I've been able to eat whatever else I want without feeling any panic whatsoever.  Salad was a huge problem for me but I've had several large bowls with no ill effects.  I had a good portion of fish and rice last night, rice was a problem too.

I really don't know what happened since I went to see the doctor but it's like I'm almost back to my old self, I have a few hurdles to get over but I've been eating and quite a lot lately too!  I'll probably go back to burger in a few weeks or try it again soon but for now despite not wanting to eat that everything else has been great!  You realize just how bad you feel when you're not eating very well when you're able to eat again, it's a good feeling.

That awful choking feeling has subsided for now, at least for the past week.  I'm definately going with my fiancee on Wednesday now for sushi, I had sushi for dinner tonight so I -know- I can eat it and not panic.  The next big step is going out to a restaurant and doing that same thing in public and I just know that I'm going to do well and I can hardly wait, I LOVE sushi!

How does one deal with the unavoidable?

I know how you feel about your cat.  I have two and they are a big part of my life.  I don't have children (yet) so my kitties are pretty much like my little children.  I would be absolutely devastated if I knew that I was going to lose one of them.  I'm glad you love your cat so much and I know that it has a good life so even if it comes down to having to decide if your cat's quality of life isn't great anymore, feel good that you took such good care of him during his life and his last days.

Pets can really become more than just an animal in our home, through the years they show their personalities, devotion and love to us.  It's really heartbreaking to know that they won't be around forever but if you've given them a good life it's ok to be sad when it's their time to go but the best thing you can do for them, I think, is always remember what they brought to your life.  I'm truly sorry about your cat's condition Diva but I'm so happy to hear what great care you're taking of him and I know he appreciates it.

I hope he can turn a corner soon.  Let us know how the vet visit goes!
