I'm 48 years young and have been smoking over 30 years. I plan to stop smoking tomorrow and just wanted to to say hi to all the others that are fighting the good fight, so to speak. I have tried to kick my addiction a few times now and am hoping that this will be the quit that sticks and I'm also hoping to become a regular user of this forum, and to be able to give support to others along their journey too.
Congratulations on your 5 days quit. I too am new to this site and joined today. I haven't started my quit yet, my quit date is tomorrow. I'm so pleased to hear that you are starting to find things getting a little easier after 5 days, this is a great incentive for me. I'll be looking out for your posts and following in your footsteps. Stay strong :)
Thank you to you all for your lovely replies.I am so pleased that I have stumbled upon this site and this forum, the support and encouragement that I've received is amazing. I started to fill out my program yesterday and have read and printed out some of the really great tips and advice from it too.
So just to quickly update you all, I have survived my first day of being smoke free without too many cravings. This time I am more determined to quit than I have ever been before. I have learnt from past attempts that there is no such thing as "just one cigarette" and also that smoking doesn't relieve stress or take away any problems that I have, the problems will still be there after that "just one cigarette" has been smoked. I have also learn't that you don't have to smoke that "just one cigarette" to relax and enjoy the holiday that you'd been looking forward to all year round, and just wouldn't be the same without one.
This time I am armed with more knowledge and more determination than ever before. This time I will not be romancing the cigarette or looking back at my smoking days as glorious or happy days, but instead I will be looking at this quit as a way of freeing myself from my addiction and gaining control of my life.
Once again thank you for all your support and encouragement, I really appreciate it.
Congratulations on your 8 years quit that's fantastic news to read, and thank you for coming back and inspiring us all. 8 years seems so far away for me, but one day I hope to be right where you are today. :)
