Quit today

Hi Free2bme,
Welcome to the SSC. Been there done that huh? Well you know the routine then. Two years was a great quit, why'd you start back up? Are you prepared for the journey this time around? I'd suggest going through the "my program" at the top of the page. It will help prepare you for what lies ahead.
Fight those cravings with everything you've got, and make this your LAST quit!
Hang in there and remember, N.O.P.E.!

Ready to start my new journey!

Hi Mel,
 Welcome to the SSC.
I got a chuckle out of the enthusiasm you started  this thread with. Are you sure you're ready for your journey?
You might want to go through the my program at the top of the page. It has some hints and tips that might help you in your journey. You really need to be prepared for what lies ahead if you really want this to work.
Have you tried to quit before? Are you going to use any NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) or go cold turkey?
I'd wish you luck on your attempt to quit smoking, but luck has nothing to do with it. It's all determination and will power.
Stay strong and keep us posted on your progress.

quit for 4+ years until a few weeks ago (how much damage have I done?)

Hi Confused,
I doubt that you have did any damage with the minor amount you have inhaled in the past 2 months. As for which is better, in my opinion, neither one is good for you or your body. Poison is poison no mater how you take it.
Life does bite at times doesn't it? You might want to check out the other programs offered by the mother company of SSC. Click on the help at the top of the page and then click on the other programs. There are programs for both anxiety and depression available. You might find some answers to some of your question in one of those.
Now as for your quit, blowing 4+ years really bites no matter what the situation was. Are you back to no smoking now?
Stay strong buddy!

I really want Freedom

Hi MommaGrizz,
Welcome to the Stop Smoking Center.

It is kind of scary setting the date to quit smoking, not knowing if you can really do it or not in the back of your mind. But if you can set a date, that's the first step in your journey yo freedom.
I'd suggest you go through the "my program" at the top of the page to start off with. It has a number of hints and tips to help prepare you for what lies ahead. Also read through the forums and try to learn as much as you can so you can be prepared. The more you know about what to expect, the easier it should be for you on your quit.
I too smoked for over 37 years, and used the patch to help on my quit, along with a pocket full of lifesavers, for when an urge came along.
Thursday February 12th is coming up real quick. Who knows, it may not be as hard as you think it's going to be. You might be one of the lucky ones. Don't get me wrong though, it will take a lot of determination and willpower. Be sure you drink plenty of fluids to help flush out the nicotine. Get plenty of rest too you'll need it fighting that nasty old Nico-Demon. Deep breathing helps too along with sucking on a straw, playing with a rubber band or a stress ball. There's lots of tips in the forums on how to help you out.
Congratulations on your decision to quit, and I wish you the best!
Stay strong and remember, N.O.P.E.!

Bought a new car with money saved

Monday stats parade. 466 days of nicotine freedom, and with the money saved that I'd usually spend on cigarettes, I bought a brand new 2015 vehicle. That's the best reward I've ever given myself!
I actually bought it 5 months ago, but it STILL smells like a new car. No smoking allowed.

i am trying to quit smoking.

Hey Poorguy,
It's great to hear that you're still not smoking.  Fruits & veggies are better than candy like you said, but whatever works is what's important when you're starting the quit. You should be into blah week now I think, if I'm counting the weeks right. Weeks, how's that sound to you for not smoking? I hope you're proud of your accomplishments and are rewarding yourself.
Stay strong buddy...

Jan 20th quit smoking cold turkey

Hi Gadget044,
Congratulations on making it through hell week, heck week and blah week!   Make sure you reward yourself for your accomplishments too.
And you are right, you have to want to do this for YOU for it to work. Sure it will make the others happy if you quit, but if you don't want this in YOUR heart you will probably fail. It's great that you were able to quit cold turkey, it sounds like you have a lot of determination in you. That's what you'll need to keep your quit going, determination and willpower.
Once again, congratulations on the awesome start to your quit, and your journey to freedom.
