Just Checkin In!

OK, OK... I have PLANNED my 30 day reward! Howz that! (I'm that confident).

I just has an old 'friend' surprise me with a visit, bringing her new man, her 2 year old insane grandson and her great big old dog to my house and WITHOUT EVEN ASKING, stay for what looked like 2 weeks. Luckily it has been cut short, but that was hell. I just wanted my home back.  Her and her new man smoked. and smoked.... and smoked .... and smoked... and you guessed it... smoked.  They smoke TWO packs per day EACH!!  Aaaaaagh!  My house is like one of those smoking rooms at the airport.  She called me at work today to say 'they're off' after using all my appliances, washing their clothes, using the telephone and getting out every single toy in the whole house. and GUESS WHAT I came home to an ashtray with over 70 cigarette butts in it!

I know your jaw has dropped open right now and your eyes are popping out at the screen, yes!

Can you believe some people. I have been tested to the hilt quite frankly.  I was telling my doctor about all the stressful situations I have been in since I gave up smoking and he said...

"...and you have'nt had the urge to have a cigarette?"

I replied,

"Sweetheart, I have the URGE to take up class A drugs actually!"... But I'm not smoking if that's what you mean!

He laughed so much he almost fell of his chair!

Hope I have given you all a giggle with my latest stress!

Anyhow, like I said - I have PLANNED my treat for my 30 day smoke free days.... A GUCCI watch.  I've always wanted it and I found one on sale for $289.00 - which you will notice I have ALREADY SAVED in not smoking.  So that watch is mine next week, and every time I look at the time, I am going to remind myself that I no longer smoke.... EVEN WHEN I'M STRESSED!!

LOL!

Smoking and surprising friends!

I added this to my last thread, then thought I would start a new one as the title is more interesting! LOL!

Smoking and surprising friends!

impalamania - YEP, very, very good idea!

Thanks everyone. Can not believe - a whole month and I DID IT!

Yesterday a client came to the office and beckoned me outside to have a cigarette, and I just said  in a normal tone, "I don't smoke'. And then I thought... Good God, I don't smoke!  It was like a penny dropping in  my head.

I've been agitated, but crazy thoughts and talking to myself all day has disappeared.  It's weird, I still think about having a cigarette, but it's almost like a distant thought and is easy to dispell.  Who would have thought.

I'm busy as hell at work, and really need to address my weight. I'm thinking a weekend away with my $400 I saved (less all the retail stuff I spent in the first week, less the Gucci watch... ooops, I owe my non-smoking fund a few dollars! LOL!).........

Anyhows, a weekend away is what I need, and I'l be ready to change nmy eating habits - hopefully inmuch the same way as I did my smoking habit - one day at a time......

Thanks to everyone here... xxxx

Monkeys and Peanuts

Good Day All!

It's been a while, and I am still not smoking!

Just thought I would share....

Smokers and Smoking was once explained to me like this:-

A farmer owned a peanut farm, with lots of peanut trees. Every day, the monkeys would try to steal as many peanuts from the trees as they could. The farmer would spot them, run for his gun and head down to his orchard, and the  monkeys would scarper.  To stop them, the farmer picked all his peanuts, and put them in jars. Big fat jars with very slim necks.  When the monkeys came and saw the jars of peanuts, they immediately stuck their hands in and grabbed a fistful of peanuts. But because their had clenched their fists around the peanuts, when they tried to take their hand out of the jar, it was stuck fast.  The farmer went to get his gun. As he came down the hill, all the monkeys knew he was going to kill them. They all looked at each other knowing death was iniment. Of course, they only had to let go of their peanuts and they could run. But the thought of letting go of those peanuts hardly crossed their mind. They thought of everything else they could and wallowed int heir own self pity that they were in such a perishable situation.

The analogy is smokers unable to let go of their smokes, even though they too know that the farmer is coming down that hill.

Today is the Day!

Hi there!

If you read some of my earlier posts you will laugh.  The stresses I coped with while stopping smoking were almost to the point of funny! I'm so glad I now had those stresses. Had I not and everything went quiet and well, as soon as a stress had loomed I would have picked up a smoke for sure. It's a little like the mothers who ensure their babies sleep in total silence and tell of anyone that makes a sound. As soon as their is a sound the baby goes into hysterics. But the baby that sleep in mayhem and loud music, truly sleeps like a baby!

So, treat your current stresses as a blessing when it comes to giving up smoking. I learned that stress was NOT the reason why I smoked, although I would have sworn at the time that it was.  My blog has some info, but search for my posts during August for my stressy rants! hilarious!

Good luck to you - and congratulations on one whole hour. I think when I was one hour in I started to have out of body experiences! (now I hardly think about it)

Phae xx

How Many of Us Remember...

Well I certainly remember - even if I can not recall every username!
In particular, Brenda, who replied to just about every single post I ever wrote!

I had many friends give up smoking at the same time I did - I am the only one who remained smoke free.  I can only credit this website as to why I stayed off the smokes when everyone else gave in and went back to them! I was the heaviest and most dependant smoker and people still comment almost every week that of all the people they know, they never thought I would succeed in giving up smoking. My habit was a huge part of my life!

So I not only remember, but I am very grateful.

Thank you everybody on here. Even those who did not post to my questions, I read your threads and learned lots. Indeed, I never had one more puff.... not one!

If one year ago today.....

If one year ago today, you would have said to me I would be one year smoke free.... I would NEVER have believed any of you.  But I am!!

I'm SO proud of myself... can't believe I did it!

I have a friend staying with me on holiday and she gave up this week. I have been watching her go through the hard time, and I have practically forgot those first few days/weeks.

It's great to say "I gave up a whole year ago".  Well worth it.  My secret weapon was this website.  thank
you to everyone that helped me.....

I failed

Hey Kaiser, bummer you had to reset your metre.

I think I would have failed over and over again,,, but when I came on here I found loads of people on this forum who were two or three times down the track.  Some had even given up for over a year and come back!  I freaked out.  And then it dawned on me just how hard it was gonna be.  It made me re-think how I was going to approach my quit.  Before, I had thought that after a week, the cravings would go and then i could always have the occassional puff with friends. On the contrary,  This forum taught me that this is IT.  It's over. Not one liccle wiccle puff ever again.  And I never looked back. You can get strength by reading over old posts and finding out other people's experiences and then apply them to yourself.  So tripping up, like you have, is cool in my book.  Brush yourself off and go at it again.... and I can promise you it get's easier.
