I do not believe that you will have to suffer forever, tryagain. It just seems that way to you right now. Lighten up. Don;t fall into a pit of self pity. "I was a fat person in a thin person's body." You were a size 4 for HOW long? Turn your attitude towards the positive. You have a great quit going. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 27 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 648 Amount Saved: $135.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 17 Mins: 32 Seconds: 54

Hi Tryagain, Don't beat yourself up over the weight gain. What you have gained from not smoking is far more important. I have packed some on myslef and one look at my stats and at my age it isn't to easy to lose. My priority right now is to keep the quit and to everyday see what I can do to lose some weight but it has to be on the back burner. I know how you feel I was alway a fat kid and then lost the weight. I knew is was lurking there to come back and it did just like yours. We have choices and I think for now keeping the quit should be at the top of our list. Second should be seeing how we could manage our weight better. Keep the quit the weight will come off. :)

tryagain , how are you? I CAN HEAR YOU! i have the same problem (getting rid of one addiction and falling into another). i gained at least 45lb. (i put the scale away after 45lb).i got so fat it is not funny any more. thats way i came back here to find ways of "quitting" eating. Im not going back to smoking in order to "fix" the weight problem. therefor i have one option only and thats to stop eating like a pig! starting now im not going on any diet, but i will only eat 3 "normal" meals a day, no more sweets, no more comfort food! and yes i must exercise.... who would have belived that we could quit smoking? and look at us, we did it! now it`s time to fix our little weight problem and i`m sure it will be much easier than quiting smoking. don`t you think so?. IT IS TIME TO FEEL GOOD AND TO LOOK GOOD!! ex-idiot My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/19/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 152 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,104 Amount Saved: $1,254.00 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 14 Mins: 59 Seconds: 26

So you have put weight on. There are ways of dealing with that. Weight Watchers was a good suggestion. Also there are web sites out there to be checked out. I love my sweets, big time, but I "love" my quit more. I lost a quit because I couldn't stand the fact I had gained weight. Then I had to start all over again. You wrote "It's like alcoholisim, you might always want the drink, just not have one, and live like that every day." I consider myself one lucky lady today because I don't have to pick up that drink. I have not had to have drink in 30 years. I have been blessed with sobriety. I am not sad about that at all. Just as with cigs, food, drugs, alcohol you have a choice. You can choose to pick up the addiction of your choice or you can choose to say no thanks. What is working for me this time is that I am eating healthy most days. I joined a 30 minute workout club for women and go 3 times a week and I walk about 5 times a week and I don't smoke. Look at your stats you are doing great!!! Please, remeber that nothing it worth loosing a quit over. yeah but you can address the weight loss far easier than battling cancer or other issues caused by cancer. I have to imagine weight is easier to lose than get new lungs. I have always had weight issues also, and honestly the better I feel, the easier I breathe now, the more I want to exercise and eat right. Just begin, and I think you will find the craves will ease up a bit. I know it is hard. do you have healthy snacks on hand? Are you able to exercise a couple of times a week? I hope you feel better Try :) Sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 48 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 480 Amount Saved: $84.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 15 Mins: 3 Seconds: 2

try, Thanks for sharing and we know this has been less than easy for you. You have 144 days under your belt, so why not start to focus on your weight loss? Use this as a coping mechanism! What did you do before to lose the weight? Try your doctor and nutrionist as well as a exercise coach and begin to make a new plan for you. You have to be happy with yourself :) You have done a great job with this journey and your insight is invaluable. You did it once and you can do it again, so start preparing yourself, you quit smoking, you can do anything! Josie, Support Specialist

Years ago I had to accept that I was always going to be fat, always have a problem with my weight and deal with it from that point. After I went down to 125 and a size four, I remained there for many years, always guarding against that weight gain because I always knew that basically I was fat. I gained 52 pounds with this quit because I was not paying attention. The fight with cigarettes was so hard and took up so much of my energy that there was nothing left to fight the weight gain. That's background, now I have to accept the fact that the craving for cigarettes like my craving for pie, cake and cookies will always be there. I have taken this train as far as it will go. For decades I was a thin fat person, now I have to be a non-smoking smoker. It's like alcoholisim, you might always want the drink, just not have one, and live like that every day. This makes me almost unbearably sad. I don't know that I have the fight in me for two unending, daily, lifelong battles.
