Hey Mike, I am glad you are trying again! It is so worth the journey!
Take it one day at a time. Hobbies are a great idea. Make sure you have a quit kit available, ( candy, gum, etc) or use straws if you have to, to suck on or chew, they helped me alot. I know the first few days are jittery and sleepy, but keep busy if you can. Clean out that garage, or take up walking (which also helps to keep trim and alleviates cravings!) You can do it! Stay positive!

Hi again!

I had another reward in mind, besides a beer after work when I quit.  My reward was to save up for a special scuba diving trip, as I haven't been diving in a long time!  Well, before I got the chance to do the dive trip, there was something else I really wanted and I took that money I had saved from quitting and bought a fantastic 55" big screen!  It used up a huge portion of my "quit" money, but I'll continue to save that money for my dive trip!  I haven't had the time for the trip, anyways, but I will be making plans soon to do it!

There's a thread on here with the title of "low cost rewards"  or something like that.  Do a search on it, as it has a bunch of great ideas!  If I have time, I'll try to find it and bump it forward.

Hang in there, buddy!  Vow every day to kick that demon's ash and re-commit daily to never lose one battle to that sucker!  I considered it a war that I just could not afford to lose!

Good ideas. I did put something in milestone 5 before I quit this morning, but it is not really something I look forward to, more of a placeholder. I owned an RC helicopter store.

The "daily" reward is what is stumping me.

I appreciate any and all ideas.

Best Regards,
Mike

Hi Mikek,

Rewards are not optional.  We have to find you something that can be a daily celebration of your quit.  Sounds like you would like to stay away from food.

Looks like you have some hobbies (RC helicopters).  I'm sure there are many addons or accessories that you could treat yourself to.

Or is there a hobby that you always wanted to take up?  This is your chance.

Please keep us up to speed as to your reward game plan and when you have a chance commit it to writing in Milestone 5: keeping your quit.

You can do it.

well obviously since I quit this morning I am serious.
I do not think you understand, or maybe you made an assumption that I was being facetious, but other than food, I cannot think of a daily reward, say after work. Its almost an epiphany.

It seems like you don't want to quit Mike. It's okay someone needs to pay the taxes and keep all the doctors employed.  Sad thing is if you have a stroke or coronary your wife will have to help dress you, feed you bathe you etc. Also if you are here in the US and have a condition, then you can no longer get insurance unless you work for a large company.

Smoking seems like no big deal but it really is but nobody can make you quit.

Strokes, Emphezima, Heart Attack (I had that) and other things can really mess up your life, suck your bank account dry and make you wonder what you were thinking.

Mike, I think you ought to hit Youtube and do some of the scare tactics to see what has happened to others who smoke. It's not pretty.

I almost died last May from a heart attack, TWO YEARS AFTER QUITTING. So is not a matter of quitting and thinking you're safe now but a matter of quitting and praying that you didn't wait too long!

Good Luck,
You can do it! But you need to take it very seriously, cause it is!

Hey Mike!

One last word....   R E W A R D S ! ! !   Mine was and still is my after work beer (or 2)!!!  I told myself right from the very beginning that if I ever smoked I would forgo my favorite treat!  Well, it worked for me for 900 plus days now, maybe you can find your own special reward!

Regardless, rewards are an essential part of gaining our freedom, be sure to reward yourself a  LOT!!!
