34 years at a pack a day, but today's the day. Yesterday actually, but this is my first full day... and I don't feel that bad. I do want a cig, but the cravings come and go... and I don't dwell on them. I keep my mind on other things. I tried this once before and made it four months. Then I hit a trigger that I wasn't willing to deal with. But live and learn, so here I am again, and I'd like your help! Share your experience with me, and I'll share mine with you. Hopefully we'll all be better for it. I was scared and didn't want to face this day, but here I am. I know that I have to quit, and now that the day has come... I'm not turning back again.

Thanks for the welcome Nonic, Healer and Josie! It's a new day and I'm looking forward to the positive changes. I've already noticed a few, just in the first 40 hours or so, but I know from past experience to expect more in the coming days. So I'll focus on them instead of the negatives, like cravings. I don't intend for the withdrawal to rob me of my appreciation for life or the satisfaction I can experience from time spent with my children or working at my job. My smoking has robbed me of enough already. I intend to start my new life now... not after the cravings go away. :) I was a regular at this same forum back a few years ago and I met some wonderful people who were great inspirations to me then. I'm sure that I'll be encouraged now by a new set of fellow-travelers, like the three of you. And Josie, it's nice to see you again. :) Anyway, I'm moving ahead with today...without fear. I know what has to be done and I'm going to do it. I'm going to get all I can out of today...smoke-free.

Lookingglass, That is awesome. Keep it up! I was 11 years at a pack a day, and I just got a huge wake up call about a month ago. Like you, I have momentary cravings, but I choose to not dwell on them...and it's easier if I can place my mind elsewhere. I was scared as well...but you, me and everyone here are all going through this together....and it feels so good to not be alone in this situation!!! I'll see you around!!!! lookingglass Looks like you looked into the looking glass and decided you just would not be afraid. Thats great, I think that fear is one of the things that keeps us addicted. I never made more than 24 hours prior to this attempt and I credit this site with giving me the opportunity to over come my own fear. I've lately been thinking about the dual nature of the addiction. On the one hand it is a physical process and on the other it has entangled our emotions to a horrendous degree. Because the emotional part of this has been so deep for me, I have found that using my spiriitual self has been my most effective weapon. What I mean by that is that I have stepped back in time and realized that there was once a non-smoking being in me, that was in fact me. I have been resurecting that self bit by bit and its been a great trip...Not easy, but very very enlightening... In any case, I am glad you are here...You will find a lot of great people who will invest in your success here. And you too will help us as we all move on down to quitten town... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 72 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,749 Amount Saved: $504 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 12 Mins: 56 Seconds: 9
