I also have thyroid problems (Hashimoto's disease). am on 1.25 mg of thyroxine. If you ever see a weight jump for no reason and you aren't hungry at the same time, get your thyroid levels checked. If they are at the low end of normal, up them anyway. You want to stay mid range. Sometimes it is hard to sort out which symptoms come from which. If you feel normal again when your TSH is at the high end of normal, then it was probably the thyroid doing you in. I sometimes feel like a chemical soup. I have also had severe iron deficiency anaemia which again gives the same symptoms of fatigue. Fortunately my GP did a PhD in Blood chemistry before becoming a doctor. I am 59 (60 in a couple of weeks)

Lots of people have both thyroid problems and depression, it seems (and I'm one of them). One of my relatives also has both problems. She found that the thyroid hormone *generic* didn't work for her, almost at all, but the brand name did. So maybe you could try a different version of the thyroid medicine to see if it helps? Also, I was told that the dosage often has to be adjusted upward over time (again, what I'm doing right now . . but at least the energy has been coming back . .)

Oh my God, back here again! Have just read on the site that thyroid problems could be causing similar symptoms as depression. My most recent thyroid test came back very low and they have upped my dose of thyroxine. have been taking thyroxine for 8 years. Anyone else out there with both thyroid problems and depression? Sitting on this damn computer trying to make some sense of all this, meanwhile the ironing pile growing out of control!

thanks so much for your kind words. Is it just me, or is it all the little things that get you down. Just come back from a supermarket to buy a couple of things, took all my strength to get out of the house only to find that they had changed the shop arround yet again and i felt complete panic that i couldnt find what I wanted. So silly, but nothing seems easy.

Welcome to the site Gabs. I feel the way you do. I don't like medication and this depression stuff scares the hell out of me. I hate losing control and I don't know what to do about it. I hate the days that the tears won't stop and I'm doing everything in my power to try and learn how to "fix" it if there even is a way. I am stumbling through the program trying to figure it out too so you are not alone. Hang in there. There has to be a solution.

Welcome Gabs, Just keep reading the posts on here and get to know the community of fellow sufferers like yourself. Talk to us when you feel you want to and, when you have the extra little bit of energy, try looking into the Sessions to read how the programme works. Most of all, when you feel like crap and you're frightened and have no one to talk to about your pain, come on in here and look and listen. I don't always feel like working the programme myself but I need to read what folks are doing and saying in the support group as often as I can. It helps me to know there're people out there who get what the fear and trembling is all about... Patrick

1st time on web and not sure that am doing this correct. I am 53 and in the grips of this terrifying illness. The lack of understanding of my partner is making things worse but he wont even read anything about it. I know this is awful for him too. I am very frightened of what will happen to me and hope I can do this programme. I know that I must work hard at helping myself and prepared to do anything. Hate the medication. I feel in a haze and zombie like.
