So you took an inventory and shared with another person? My frustration came from intolerance of situations and other people. So I focus on fixing myself everyday. Selfishness self-centeredness that is the root of all problems. So try to stay away from myself and be of use to others.

Foxman, I appreciate the input. I have been a member of AA in the past as well. It has been a few months since my last meeting. I have read the Big Book many times. I have the knowledge. What I lack is the wisdom to use that knowledge on a daily basis. The "daily maintenance" is what is required for me. When I slack off, I drink. It's pretty sjmple, but not always easy.

Bassman, I sobered up visiting AA and am still part of the fellowship. They refer to what you mentioned as "peculiar mental twist" that goes through prior to taking that first drink. Some of us succumb to that thought and act on it. Thats the insanity. Our mind is only focused on the effect produced by alcohol, doesn't think past that. The consequences doesn't crowd the mind when we act on it. Thats true powerlessness.

Yes, I have practiced abstinence before. I have been able to go several months without alcohol. It seems that I am only able to do so by working a daily maintenance program. When I slack off that routine I end up drinking again. Thanks for the welcome!I

Hello Bassman and welcome.  I'm glad you found this site too.  You will find support here and people that understand what you are going through.  You said that your goal is abstinence.  Have you tried to abstain before?

I am so glad I found this Alcohol Help Center! My goal is total abstinence from alcohol. I was feeling guilty and remorseful about my binge drinking yesterday. I am hopeful that the tools and support found here will help me attain and maintain my goal. I am not a daily drinker. I am more of a binge drinker. My alcohol voice tells me I will feel better after having a few drinks. I never do. I believe that actively working a program of abstinence is the only way to see through the lies of the alcohol voice in the back of my mind. Thank you for being here for me!
