hi Ashley!  I'm not really rewarding myself I guess?  I'm just glad to get through the hard part of the day, which is early to late afternoon, pre-dinner hours!

Hi Snaphu,

Sorry you are not feeling well.  It will get easier. Take it one hour, one day at a time. We will be here for you ever step of the way.

How are you rewarding yourself for getting through each day?

I'm having stomach issues in the evening... and general anxiety and depression throughout the day.  Sometimes I feel good! It's like a roller coaster ride of the emotions!  mostly bad

Hi Marylizy, craving is the worst symptom for me as well.  I never really had headaches or stomach issues but my heart would pound until I thought I was going to have a heart attack.  Congrats on 5 days, I am on my 1st day of my 5 day goal!  I'm rooting for you!

Excellent comment Jason. I think each of our symptoms are going to be different to certain degrees. I think that just wanting a drink is the hardest for me. I do not have headaches, stomach problems but my sleep is disturbed, but it was when I would go to bed drunk. So maybe that is another problem not related to the drinking or not drinking. As far as thinking about how good that drink would be, I think about how bad I will feel about me the next morning and that keeps me on track. I also have said that I think of the question, what good has drinking every done for you? My answer always comes back, nothing. So why would I want to do something that does absolutely no good for me? In a rational state, I would not. So that said, slips happen, old habits return but can die. That is how I am looking at it this morning of my 5th day of sobriety. Thanks for being there.

You can also expect that you might have to try cutting down or stopping several times before you reach your goal. Even though people sometimes slip in their efforts to stop or cut down, it’s been proven that if they keep trying eventually they’ll get where they want to go.

This has been the biggest lesson for me... don't give up... keep trying.  Also, if you are having so much physical reaction to going without it is recommended that you do this with the supervision of your doctor.  I had to do that and a doctor really can help you feel safe as you withdraw and offer reassurance about what is normal and what is not.

I appreciate your information.  A couple times a week I don't drink anything and on those nights, I definitely don't get a good sleep.  I wake up every hour, get the sweats, have crazy dreams and have a general feeling of malaise.  It's comforting to know this is all about withdrawal and not that I am insane.
