you say "of course!" I have seen prominent doctors and been in treatment for 23 years!! I have taken medications, kept journals, attended groups. But EVERY day is painful, EVERY day I cry, EVERY day for over 20 years has felt like it should be my last. I have no one in my life. Being alone for this long has been horrible. The one thing I haven't tried is ECT. Have avoided it, but it is next on my list. Sorry, I know it sounds so negative and not the best way to ask for help. I just don't know how to talk about it honestly with a positive spin...
wdc,
Of course it is possible to find hope. Many people all over the
world learn to live with their depression and have very fulfilling
lives. Have you started on the program yet? Set aside some time as
often as you can to work through the program. The readings and homework
will help you learn more about your depression, how to challenge your
negative thoughts, help you understand your core beliefs and teach you
ways to incorporate pleasurable activities into your life.
Members, any tips for starting the program and dealing with feelings of no hope.

Thanks to everyone for their replies... I have intended to write more but, ah depression.... i can't think clearly long enough. I am up doing my morning freak out/crying jag panicking about going to work. I don't know how I have lived this long like this and I don't know how I will continue (God I have said that for 20 years!) Please bear with me. I will try to write more and maybe maybe maybe I will find some hope! Is that really possible? Thanks again.
I hear you even though you haven't really said too much. Chances are you've come across this web site looking for some hope. I know when I found it I knew I had to stick around because it offers a place where you can express yourself without being misunderstood. There are many issues that contribute to depression, but whatever the issue you can be assured that we relate to the depression. Feel free to express yourself, it helps to get feedback and other perspectives. Too often we're left with our own negative outlook and can't see past it. Many times someone here can and it helps.
As for the sessions, they take work, reflection and the willingness to look at yourself in truth. There's no timetable to follow and you work at the pace that's comfortable for you. Everyone here is at different places but all have insight.
We welcome you and whatever your issues are. At least give it a try - if you came here looking, it can't hurt. Let us know how you're doing.
I discovered this place when I needed to work out what it meant to feel normal and what it meant to be depressive and hypomanic (guess I am Bipolar - I get to roller coaster between miserable, normal and scary).
I have worked out -eh most - of the program and I am getting better at being positive in stressful stiuations.
Hello again WDC,
As I said before, this is a support centre which in itself is very helpful for those suffering from depression because they feel like they are not alone. If you wish, you can share your story and what brings you to this support site.
Again, take the time to review the program. You have to work through the sessions in order to gain the insight you may be looking for. The sessions will help you to identify and challenge certain mental processes that are contributing to your state of mind at the moment.
Any question is a good one so if you are wondering about something please just ask.
