going back to work today; breaks and smokers!

Hi quitmeyster, I also quit last may..it lasted about 3 months. From your meter, it seems that you smoke 5 cigs a day. I know that it is just as hard to give up your 5 as to give up my 25! The triggers are just as real. I am determined to make this my forever quit. I am tired of the yo-yo. I am just having a very blue day today. Nicotine cries out that it could make you feel better. But, that is a lie. Congrats on your 3 days free, and here's to many more. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 37 Seconds: 45

why is my response always Crying?

well, another crying day. It was soooo weird. When i woke up this morning, I swear that I was already crying! How can you wake up crying? Trying to think of ways to pass the time today. Also, been troubled by the smoking dreams. I woke up a few days ago with a sore throat and had to think and think to remember if I had smoked or not. The answer was NO. (Remember those chain smoking nights, then waking up with a bad sore throat?) I look forward to normalcy..whatever that is. I just know that I hate this addiction. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 39 Seconds: 25

had a bad weekend and help

Princess, Take the attitude that smoking is not an option. It will not cure our ills..it will only make our lives worse. You are on the road to freedom. Don't give that up. It will only elevate your stress level and make you feel worse. Here's to a better day. Rejoice in the fact that you are smoke free. That is what I am trying to do. Discovered a Craving trigger - had to control

Hi John, You are quit for over a month! That is wonderful. there are many good threads about triggers that would help you out. I just read one that said we have over 70,000 associations with cigs while doing certain things in our lives over the period of a year. (that is if you smoke one pack a day). You attitude will certainly keep you smoke free. But cravings for you now are mental. Those can last for a long time. Be patient with yourself. After you study for an extended period of time without smoking, that trigger should go away from your brain. Congratulations on one month smoke free! new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 29 Seconds: 40

Discovered a Craving trigger - had to control

John, I found the thread. It is in the "avoiding relapse and slipping forum" The title is "this is why you think about cigs". YOu should read it. it will help explain why you are having such strong cravings when you study. Hang tough. You will study whether you smoke or not, so don't smoke! new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 30 Seconds: 6

going back to work today; breaks and smokers!

thanks danielle, I am not going to smoke; but dang, I have been crying all day. I swam some laps and then took a nice shower with my peppermint oil soap. i feel a little better now, but am still weepy. I did not know that nicotine was a mood booster. That could very well be why I am so blue. I am using a few of the 2mg lozenges everyday. I am also taking wellbutrin. I am going out to dinner with my hubby and 2 of my kids. That will be nice. Then, I will get in bed early, watch the season finale of "The Riches" and hopefully drift off to sleep. I hope I am not crying so much tommorrow. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 216 Amount Saved: $45.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 31 Seconds: 3

going back to work today; breaks and smokers!

Hi Quitmyster, Well, I did not wake up crying, so that is an improvement! By the end of the day yesterday, i was better. I am having my fresh ground coffee and getting ready for the day. And you have 4 days now..that is great. I know that if we can do it one day, we can do it the next day and the next day, etc, etc. There is much to rejoice about in being smoke free. Today, I will dwell on the positive. It is good to learn to embrace how we feel instead of numbing ourselves with nicotine. If I go back to smoking, it will be a life long sentence of slavery, declining health, stinky clothes, bad breath, depleted energy, and denial. Thanks for your concern Quit. I'll see you around the boards. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 240 Amount Saved: $50.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 43 Seconds: 57

I'm really tired and need help

Hi fullhse, I was wondering how you were doing. I know exactly what you are going through. Only, I have been on this quitting rollercoaster ride for TWO years. It is exhausting, I know. (I was a 30 + year smoker, 1 1/2 packs a day). During the past two years, I have read "The easy way to quit smoking", I have been to numerous websites to read about nicotine addiction, I have used the patch, the gum, the quit smoking shot (twice), nicotine lozenges, hypnotic cd's, the patch again, lozenges again...and on and on and on. There is no magic pill, fullhse. But, this journey of the past two years has prepared me for this quit. I am going to stay smoke free this time. I don't care how I feel. (I have said this many times before, but for some reason, that statement means something to me now). Something has finally clicked in my brain! This past year of struggling for you is preparing you for your final quit. It is up to you to decide when that is going to be. Nothing, but ourselves, will make us quit smoking. As addicts, we have to face the truth about this addiction. In the past two years, the longest that I stayed completely smoke free was 3 months. Then, I would try and limit my number of cigs per day; I would see my use escalating after a few weeks, then i would quit completely again.. and round and round and round. It just keeps us addicted, craving, and in limbo about our quits. We cannot smoke just one, fullhse. You know that. Do what you need to do to get out of this yo yo lifestyle of addiction. You are punishing yourself, as I did. Read, prepare yourself, get positive about the joys of not smoking, being free from this addiction, and then set a NEW quit date. Decide if you are going to us NRT to help you with the withdrawal, or some form of non nicotine aid (wellbutrin, chantix???) Look at my story, fullhse. It is so like yours. We can do this. Soooo much is mental. You either get to the place where smoking is absolutely NOT an option, or you live a constant life of craving, smoking, not smoking, until eventually you are back in the arms of the addiction, full force. It is a life long sentence of declining health, zapped energy, slavery to nicotine, bad breath, stinky clothes and hair, numbed emotions, sucking our income, bad feelings about ourselves, etc, etc, etc. Time is going to pass fullhse, whether we smoke or not. Let the time pass as a non smoker. Before you know it, another year will have gone by and you will be FREE! Let us know your new quit date. Prepare yourself. You can do it..you really can. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 240 Amount Saved: $50.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 49 Seconds: 13

I've been trying to keep VERY busy!!!!

Hi Jan, We quit on the same day! AND, I am a huge Law and Order fan. My favorite is Criminal Intent! I am on my umptenth quit. Mentally, I have tried to get to the place where smoking is NOT an option. It helps, It is my mantra. There is so many positive aspects of NOT smoking. I can not think of ONE positive thing about smoking. That is what we need to dwell on, The positives of being free from this addiction. Have a great smoke free day. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 240 Amount Saved: $50.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 49 Seconds: 56

New and afraid, for the umpteenth time!

Hi kujo, Have you done the online program here at scc? Educating yourself about this addiction can really help in the motivation department. Once you really believe all the evils of smoking and nicotine, your committment to quit will grow. My advice, educate yourself, surf the net for info on smoking, read and read. Stay firm on your new quit date, prepare yourself, and go for it! Freedom from nicotine addiction is allllll good. Poisoning ourselves everyday is alllll bad. You make it happen. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 240 Amount Saved: $50.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 11 Mins: 10 Seconds: 8
