Hi, Brand new, looking for hope

ugh... it takes persistence and work.... focus... I'm in short supply these days.  However, I have at times been able to sustain for several months and it does make all the difference in everything... how you feel, think, focus... etc.  Thank you FF for bringing that up (give your dh a thanks) .  If you are willing to try it, I will too.  I need the motivation and the accountability.  The other thing I need to start doing is walking regularly................. but let's not get too carried away just yet

Avatars & Screen-names

In keeping with the main thread of staying positive (or becoming that way for some of us ... me for one) I am rethinking my avatar & screen name.  My sig (~m) is something I've used elsewhere too.  The tilde (~) represents my figurative spine.... weak and wobbly, or wishy-washy.  The small "m" is reflective of insignificance... and when I'm feeling invisible it just drops to "n".  I am beginning to see that as a negative way to describe myself (even if no else knows what it means to me).  And the picture of the beagle puppy ... she is totally cute, but she also looks defeated and defenseless... spineless even.  I have decided to go with a stronger, more positive image...

What does your avatar and/or screen-name reflect about you?
Why did you choose them?  What is the meaning for you?

Is this caused by depression? Will it go away if the depression goes away?

No you are not the only one.  I think most people ask what is the point and purpose of life.  One of my favorite answers came from an Health Educator....  "What would you like it to be?"  FF, have you started doing thought trackers yet?  Doing those has helped me become more familiar with my cycle of thought.

Avatars & Screen-names

Me too Samantha... I'd really like to know.

I think I have found an avatar and signature that represents an archetype for me of strength and character.  I'm not sure I'll keep it.  Just trying it on for size.  I don't want to see myself as whimpy and insignificant. Not only is that negative, it's also not really true.  I was searching the internet for something suitable and found the Egyptian Goddess Nut.  Her name alone caught my attention

I chose the particular image (with permission) from artist Thalia Took.  I love the bold colors and sun in her belly symbolizing new life as well as creativity in general.  She is known as Mother of the Sky, She Who Protects, She Who Holds a Thousand Souls... she is often depicted covered in stars and arched protectively over the earth.  She is known for her incredible kindness.  She is a barrier keeping outer chaos separate from the ordered earth she protects.
The myths of the goddess Nut instruct us to never give up our hold on our precious dreams.  She reminds us to persevere and to accept the help of others when we need it.
I guess she appeals to me on many levels and I am hoping that by identifying with her I might start to think of  myself differently... more positive, stronger... and start to acknowledge the strengths and characteristics that I already have and see reflected in her story.

Feel free to address me as ~mnut for the time being or just NUT if you prefer, hmmm...maybe Acorn?

Time for change...

Me too Jacques...  it's exhausting.  Do you have to go?  What do you do inbetween to recharge?

Is this caused by depression? Will it go away if the depression goes away?

Congratulations FF...  I have to agree that meds can very much be the answer.  Everyone is different and it will work for some and not others and there is an absolute myriad of combinations of drugs that can be tried and it takes tremendous perseverance and patience.  You seem to know what the combination is for you and are getting back to it.  I'm so glad for you.  PLUS.... YAY!  you started your blog. Oh my.... all this positive **** in just a few days.  I hope you are giving yourself credit for the perseverance that has brought you this far.  I'm so glad to see it.  I do so look forward to your posts.  Thanks for hanging in there and thank you for your honesty.  Aren't any of us going to get better without that!

Tell me... if you will, about the picture you are using for your avatar (beautiful BTW) as well as the reasons behind your choice of screen-name.  There is another thread with this question ongoing.... if you can find it, post your answer over there so we can continue the conversation.   Thanks FF .  Thanks!

Is this caused by depression? Will it go away if the depression goes away?

Jacques.... for me, I need both meds and therapy.  It has taken me decades to find the right combinations, but I have, so I do understand what you are saying about only meds not being the answer for you.  But I do need to acknowledge that  different things work differently for other people.  thank god we have the opportunity to experiment for ourselves (with a docs help!) and then share our experience with each other.  There is such healing to be found in community.  thanks for your input.

Hi FF.... thanks for sharing your avatar & sig information. I like yours :) and always find the reasons why rather interesting. You can find other threads (including the one on Avatars) by clicking on Forums and when you are at the forums page, look to the right under the line of avatars and click on "Today's Active Discussions" ... there you will find all the recent postings.

So in short: I'm not discrediting the meds, I think that the meds work optimal when used with additional tools, such as therapy, good friends, sharing experiences etc. etc.

Thanks for taking the time and energy to clarify what you were saying  Jacques.  Thank goodness (and Evolution Health ) that we have so many tools to choose from.

Time for change...

Thank you Jacques for staying active on the center when you are feeling so awful right now.  <sigh>  sometimes we just have to hunker down and wait it out.  I don't know if the Health Educators would agree, but it seems to me that choosing only a few holiday activities to attend is good self-care.

I would encourage you to try to find something that might be recharging for yourself.

For me, after I do anything emotionally and/or physically draining, I allow myself about two days off to recover.  OFF means.... I don't force myself to do anything, and all shouldas must wait until my OFF time is over.  Usually I'll curl up with a book... something easy to read... or even allow the sitting on the couch drinking tea and staring into space.... sometimes it means playing games on the computer.

What I'm doing isn't as important as allowing  time to regroup without judging or forcing.

Is there something like that you could be doing for yourself between parties?  How about other members.... what do you do to recharge during the holidays when you are feeling depressed?  I think the Health Educators posted a list somewhere... can you remind us where that is???
