Hi there kcfangirl. I quit a week ago and was scared also. It seems that being scared is common among quitters. The night before my quit I didn't know if I could do it. I kept saying that I didn't know how to be a non-smoker. At 9:30 that night I smoked my last cig and had one left. I got rid of it and everything that reminded me of smoking. The next morning I was a little down about not having a smoke, but knew that I was doing what was best for my health. It hasn't been easy, but if you have a good plan in place you can make it. This is a great site.. there is a lot of great information here. The people here are very supportive also, and the best thing. They are all going through or have been through exactly what you are going through.
There are a lot of things you can use to quit smoking. You could talk to talk with your doctor and see what he/she suggests. I (and many others here) use Chantix... it is a medicine that your doctor can prescribe. It has really worked well for me. It isn't a magic pill by no means, but sure makes it easier.
I am really new at all of this, so I am sure that there will be a lot more replies really soon. Let us know how you and your husband are doing...

I fully understand not having insurance. I have been there. Even with insurance now, my insurance did not cover the Chantix. I personally think that is crazy. I mean, come on. They pay for the smokers who get sick and end up in ICU on ventilators. But they won't pay to help us quit. Much cheaper to pay for the med to help us quit! (Sorry... just gets to me that insurance companies are that way).
Okay, back on subject. I have heard that Pfizer has a program for people who need help with a presciption. I don't know that they pay for the doctor visit. I think they just help with the medicine though. I work in a hospital, I will ask our pulmonary doctor tomorrow if he knows of any programs. I will let ya know what I find out. Hang in there!
I also don't go back and read what I have typed. Guess I need to cause when I went back I found lots of errors in a post I made earlier.

Freemom has a good point there. The medicine costs just a little over what I was spending on smokes, and I smoked the cheap ones...

Hi there Lucy. You can do this. I think you can be an example to everybody. When I quit I told a friend at work, she and I always took breaks together. Well, the first day, at our first break she didn't smoke. But at lunch she did. The next day she came in and said that she was gonna see how long she could go without a smoke. She still hasn't smoked one! My boyfriend also quit! He quit the day after I did. I didn't ask them to, I didn't tell them to.. I just told them that I was not going to smoke anymore.
Be sure to check out the program on the left hand side of this page. It really helped me a lot. Read lots, there are a lot of great people here that are going through or have been through what you are going through.
