Point Form Journaling

Members,
Are thoughts lurking in the back of your head? Is there something troubling you? Write it down. We spoke about journaling and writing down your thoughts and emotions, yet occasionally, there just isn’t the time, so point form!

Have your fun pad and pen near by!

Did you come to a realization?

Did your mood change?

Do you see a pattern?

How is your mood today?

What are you eating?

Are you angry?

Are you happy?

Did you reach a goal?

That’s right it is all relative!

Take the weekend and sort it out, knowing your triggers, emotions, situations, and food consumptions can move you forward and help better assess your situation.

Please share your thoughts.

Ashamed

I think you have a lot of good ideas.  Getting your sister to have a talk with your husband would be great.  You are very fortunate to have two very important people in your life who care about you so much!

Keep on working on the program and keep posting!

Exposure for riding a train alone

Members,

Do you struggle with anxiety? Today we will be looking at sample exposure plans to help you overcome your fears.

If you fear riding the train…

  • Go to the train station and walk around outside for ½ hour
  • Go to the train station and walk around inside for an hour
  • Go to the train station and sit inside for an hour
  • Go to the train station and watch the trains for an hour
  • Ride buses for 2 hours
  • Go on a short train trip with a safe person
  • Go on a longer train trip with a safe person
  • Ride the train to a specific city with a safe person
  • Repeat the last two steps alone
Is riding the train a fear of yours?

Not sure...

Welcome Sammie,

You have come to the right place, we will help you through this.

I encourage for you to see a doctor as only he/she can offer you a proper diagnoses.  Your symptoms do sound like some sort of panic disorder but again only a doctor can diagnose you.  When you did the test at registration what was the result?

I recommend working your way through the program.  You will gain insight and learn how to address you panic. It is important for you to know that panic is very and with effort you can overcome it.

When you feel comfortable I think it would be beneficial to talk to your family.  Give them resources and information to educate them on panic.  There is nothing to be ashamed of.  Panic is a very common disorder and again it is manageable.

Keep posting, I look forward to reading more from you.

Tip of the Day

 Members,

Change your routine
.  You may find the house to be a welcoming, safe haven, or your routine tasks to be comforting and easy. Your comfort zone, however, is also the place where your depression lingers, and you must try to escape it. Rising out of your comfort zone simply means that you should do things that you had never done before, such as engaging in different conversations, physical activities, watching movies alone, or even eating in a restaurant you have never been to.

How can you change your routine?

Managing Anxiety

 Members,

Along with the classic symptoms of depression (sadness, feelings of guilt, suicidal thoughts…) most people with depression also have significant anxiety symptoms. Although we tend to think of depression as being a condition of low arousal, slowing down or even hibernation, depression is often associated with high arousal, speeding up and agitation.

On the other hand, people with anxiety disorders commonly experience many of the symptoms associated with depression.

Are you experiencing both sets of symptoms? Are you having trouble managing your symptoms?

My Story

Welcome to the group Sara!

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.  How far are you along on the program? Was there any part you found to be particularly helpful?  It is important to try to stick with it.  Many members report that the program is very helpful.

What have you been doing to work on your avoidance behaviours? Have you set up a reward system?  It is a great idea to set up some goals for yourself with rewards.  Rewards can act as very powerful motivational tools.

Keep posting! I look forward to reading more from you.

Tip of the Day

Members,
Anxiety attacks are symptoms of a form of mental illness which can be caused by depression. Many phobias are accompanied by anxiety and one of the most effective treatments for an anxiety attack symptom is CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy).

Have you tried CBT? What are your thoughts?
