Our stress is gone for now

Hi Jazz,

Sorry to hear about the MIL.  This can only prove that you are strong and determined enough to push through anything.  You could have easily told people that the stress was too much to handle, gone back to smoking, and not too many people would have given you a hard time about it; however, you didn't.  It takes a lot of guts to be in your shoes.

Now look at the situation.  You have a great son and a beautiful daughter and the world spins on.

Congratulations Jazz!  Keep up the great work.

I am new here.

Hi Moose,

Congratulations!!!  It's hard and it takes a lot of guts to be where you are right now.  Things do get better.  I call this the "I just lost my best friend blues."  Trust that it is the nicotine addiction that makes you feel that way not the dip.  The nicotine will try to convince you that life without it is not worth much; however, I have only quit for two months and don't feel that way at all despite the fact that I did believe that life was not worth $hit without ciggarettes at first.  It will eventually pass.

I was a smoker not a dipper but think about this for a second.  To a smoker the concept of chewing and dipping seems very strange.  To a chewer or a dipper the idea of putting paper filled with tobacco in their mouth and lighting it so they can inhale it seems very strange.  It's only because of the form of nicotine that we are addicted to.  Soon you will see that it's all strange and that the tobbaco companies had us all fooled.

Stay strong Moose.  Your better than this.

Day Five

Congratulations Mitch!  I have a little one at home as well.  I don't want him to grow up looking up to my smoking addiction.  I quit for a lot of reasons and surprisingly had very little to do with my family or health but it does help.  For me, it was listening to morons condescend to me about my smoking like I was some kind of idiot.  That was the final straw for me.

If you really believe that you loved smoking like I did I would recommend reading the book "Allen Carr's - The easy way to quit smoking."  It's written by an ex smoker and it's really brilliant.  It's not full of pictures of your lungs and it's not hypnosis.  It's an understanding of smoking and how it works.  By the end of the book you will understand WHY you think cigarettes are your best friend and also WHY they are not.  It's a good book.  I tried to quit over 30 times for a few days, a few months, etc over the years but kept going back to it because I believed I was missing out on something.  This book changed that and I haven't thought about smoking the same way since.

One last thing to think about.  For the purpose of this next paragraph we'll assume that non smokers are NORMAL.

When we smoke it tastes like $hit but we train ourselves to tolerate it because usually at the time we start it's considered cool to smoke.  During that "Tastes like $hit" to "Tastes like heaven" period something happens.  Our brains adapt so that the end result is we need to smoke a cigarette to return to normal (like a non smoker).  Non smokers feel the way that a smoker who has just smoked does all day long.  It's the greatest trick in the book.  Take someone who's normal; give them a substance that makes it essential to continuously take it to return to normal.

Now I may know what you’re thinking.  Why does it feel so great when you do smoke it?  It's like wearing tight shoes so that you can take pleasure in taking them off.  When you don't wear tight shoes you are normal.  When you wear tight shoes you are not normal but when you take them off you return to normal and guess what?  It feels great.

If you remember nothing else remember that.  Stay strong.

Lost the love of my life anyone else feel the same???

Howdy S,

Congratulations on quitting!!!  Losing your best friend is a common feeling and also an illusion.  It kept me addicted for quite awhile.  I'd quit for a few days, a few months, etc and couldn't bear losing my best friend.

I would recomend reading "Allen Carr's - The easyway to quit smoking" if you feel this way about it.  It will help you put things in perspective so you see things for how they really are.  It's not pictures of lung disease or hypnosis.  It's written by an ex smoker so the usual bull$hit is not in it.  Trust me, it'll be the best $20 you ever spend.  Also if your not a big fan of reading it comes in disk format.

The best way to find out whether you will lose your best friend is to take a look at someone you know who is addicted to something else and see if they feel the same.  I bet you they do.  For example:

Herion addicts consider Herion their best friend....
Alcoholics consider Alcohol their best friend.....
Chewers consider chew their best friend....

Think about that....

Take care S....Your doing great...

PM is coughing part

Yup....This is very common....Your lungs are healing themselves and trying to get rid of the $hit that we put in our system for so long....This may sound weird but look at the coughing as a good thing...
