I have to give all the cheerful credit to Wellbutrin. I've quit a zillion times before but never used Wellbutrin. Also, I've been told that this drug is used for weightloss as well - bonus! LOL
But right now I'm going thru a little health scare which is bringing me to tears (tests will determine more Monday morning). However, before I would have depended on cigarettes to get me through nervous times, sad times, etc. This time I haven't once thought about going back to smoking even though I'm so worried and concerned. It has to be the Wellbutrin. It's the only explanation. I know it doesn't work for everyone and not everyone is succussful but I'm just so thankful that I tried it because for me it's amazing stuff.
Emotional balance doesn't mean I haven't thought of smoking. I'm still thinking about smoking twenty times a day. But the thought just comes and goes and I'm taking it one day at a time.

That was a huge wake up call and congratulations for listening to it. I'm glad you are back and on board.
I hope your friends sister will be okay ... such a sad story.
You have such great ideas! Also, get a book, a really good book that you can immerse yourself in when you are home at night and trying to relax. Reading has really helped me. It keeps me occupied through the cravings and well after.
Next Thursday - I'm excited for you!

Bernie, I've been where you are so many times this past year. Don't give up on quitting. Pick a day like you have been and throw away all of your cigarettes and butts the night before (make sure you can't dig them out of the trash like I've done in the past so be sure to crush and soak them). In the morning, give yourself until noon. See if you can make it past the morning cigarette which was my personal favorite as well. But it was also the one that tripped me up the most.
Good luck.

Seven days ago I came across this website and seven days later I'm still smoke free!! (Check out my mileage - go ahead!!). I hate admitting it but I've smoked a pack a day for over twenty years - ugh - that's hard to admit.
I've tried all sorts of methods over the years but this time there is a big difference. For starters, I quit cold turkey. I have patches but I didn't want to use them. I wanted my body to be nic free and I actually made it through the first three days (how long it takes for the nic to be out of your system). I had been hording Wellbutrin and decided to start it. What a difference it has made for me. The benefit is I am not grouchy/snippy/angry or uncomfortable in my own skin - wow! I'm shocked and my kids are thankful (husband, too). Before I would be so nasty to my children at a drop of a hat but not this time thanks to Wellbutrin. I feel very balanced emotionally. I only have to deal with the cravings but they pass.
Another difference is this web site. When I get a craving I just come here and read. It keeps my mind off of the craving while it passes.
I'm also dieting at the same time. In my case, If I didn't and I gained weight, I would go back to smoking in order to lose weight. I'd tell myself "one issue at a time" and bang - I'd find my excuse to light up again. I've been smoke free for seven days and happy to say I've also lost three pounds.
So for me and my situation, having tried quiting many times in the past, I've learned a lot from failing. I have such a great outlook and even though I'm not a fool and know failure is one puff away - I really think this is going to work for me this time. Even if it's the Wellbutrin talking - so be it! I'm smoke free!

Why did I start in the first place! Such a loaded question and one that I talk to my children about. I can't imagine many people start smoking in their mid 20s & 30s. It starts with the first cigarette during the teens years. If only I passed when my friend stole her mother's pack.
It's depressing to think years down the road you still get urges but it's encouraging to hear the cravings are fleeting. And let's not forget Peter Jennings. He quit for 20 years and started again and then died from lung cancer. I think of him when I'm having a hard moment.
And Den - at least you can run! LOL Good for you and good for your lungs!
