Hello, My name is Beck. I just visited my family doctor this week because of problems with what I suspected were anxiety. I found this web site before I went to my doctor, it helped me make the decision to finally go and that I wasn't just crazy. He ordered blood work to check for Thyroid problems but is sure I have anxiety attacks. Talking it over with him, I realize I have had anxiety attacks since I was a teenager, just never this severe. I am 28 now. I have reached the point where I do not go to restaurants and I really don't like going to stores unless my partner is with me. I won't take our 12mth old son out of the house alone because I am too scared of having an attack while alone with him. I have to see my doctor in two weeks for a follow up on how I'm doing and the results of my blood work. He has put me on Celexa 20 Mg 1/2 tablet once per day and I have Ativan 1 mg tablets to dissolve under my tongue if I need them during an attack to calm myself. He told me I should really avoid using the Ativan because they are addictive.
Thank you for making this web site and discussion forum available.
Hi Beth, Thank you for your reply. I was glad to read a couple of other people are on Celexa too.
Have you always been on the same dosage of Celexa? I wondered if my doctor will change the dosage when I go back to see him.I haven't used the Ativan..I'm hoping I won't have to. Hope your having a good day, Beck.
Has anyone else experienced weight loss as a part of their anxiety attacks and nervousness? I went for my second visit with my doctor, he had tested me for Thryroid problems but all came back clear. He increased my Celexa to 20mg a day and told me to come back on 4 weeks. I have lost about 15lbs over the last two months and my eating habits and exercising are no different. He said that sometimes anxiety and worry can cause weight loss but not usually this much. If I have lost more weight by the next visit he wants to run a bunch more tests. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced weight loss? Thank you in advance.
Hi Beth, Thank you very much for you reply. :)
I haven't had any problems with my appetite at all which I think increases my concern. I sometimes actually eat more when I get stressed or worried. I get worried about whether a physical/medical problem is causing the anxiety but from what I've read this is a part of anxiety.
I have major problems with restaurants in particular and malls if I am by myself. My doctor suggested staying away from situations which bring on severe bouts of panic until I start to feel better. I find it helps because I'm not worrying about having to go to a restaurant or mall by myself because my partner knows I'm not comfortable with it yet and it very supportive.
Hi Michelle and Trish,
Thank you for your replies. It brings some relief to know the weight loss is more than likely not caused by something more serious than my anxiety. I'm now on 40mg of Celexa a day and starting to feel better. My doctor has still run more tests because I've started having occassional night sweats and I'm constantly very tired. So far all the tests have come back negative so he believes it could be a side effects of the Celexa. Trish, my doctor told me jokingly that if we could find the reason behind my weight loss we could all make a lot of money! Theres so many people struggling to loose weight and here he is trying to get me to put it back on! :) I too find humour really helps in keeping things light and easier to cope with. Thank you all for your support. It really does help.
I'm just on 40mg of Celexa a day. I also have Ativan to put under my tongue when I have a anxiety attack. I was loosing weight before I went on the Celexa so I think it was the anxiety and stress rather than the Celexa that caused the weight loss. My weight seems to have stablized somewhat now, probably because my anxiety levels have too. :)
