Binge Drinking

Hi I am  new to the site and am not sure how to post. Hope this goes to the right place. I want to cut way back on my drinking. I would like to do 30 days of not drinking and then follow the moderation program. I may need help doing this. At least encouragement

New to group. Moderation drinking.

Hi I am new to the group and am just learning how to navigate my way through the site.I would like to do moderation drinking by starting with 30 days of drinking and then drinking only 2-3 times per week. Currently I drink every night and can easily drink and entire small bottle of wine without feeling bad the next day. Not a good sign! I exercise a lot, eat healthy, but am killing my liver. I also take medication for anxiety which I would like to take stopping also. I know the alcohol does not help with my anxiety. So................am going to start working toward my goal today. May slip some and need encouragement. Pray for me!

Do you mind sharing what group you joined so that I could check it out?

New to group. Moderation drinking.

Hi Ashley,
Thanks for the note. You asked why I am motivated to start my moderation program now. Well, there are a few reasons. Most of all I want to be more healthy. I do enjoy drinking so do not want to give it up completely. I have done moderation before and been successful, but have found my way slipping back into drinking to the excess a lot lately. One of the main reasons I want to drink less is to keep weight off. I am a distance runner so I SHOULD be thinner than I am. I am definitely not overweight but am pushing my limits on where I want to be. Drinking definitely adds on the pounds. Also, I am 57 and feel that if I keep drinking so much wine it will soon start affecting my health. Right now I have good blood results, but am afraid of what drinking will do if I don't cut back. I find myself not being as energetic lately and feel that could be a result of drinking. I do not wake up with hangovers, but feel that is not a good thing either because I may just have a high tolerance. All of these things put together kind of scare me. On a different level, I have a son who is 22 who has a drinking problem. He does not live with us, but I feel that it is hypocritical of me to encourage him not to drink so much if I am drinking to excess myself. So, here I am on my first night of not drinking for 30 days and am bound and determined (at least for tonight!) to fight this battle well. So, thanks for the help and I will keep checking in and holding myself accountable.

Turquoise, thanks for the encouragement! Nice to know that their are others willing to go on the journey together. I have made it through the night with no alcohol. In fact, I returned a bottle of  wine to a friend who gave it to me over the holidays and asked her to keep it "safe" for me until I am ready to enjoy it with her and without overdoing it. We are embarking on this journey together also, but her will power tends to be better than mine. I have found a moderation group that meets in our city and may try it tomorrow night. I will let you know how that goes. Cheer me on and I will cheer you on. Together we can do this! One night without alcohol is one step closer to reaching moderation!

Hi Everyone, Well I made it through my first of  30 nights without any alcohol. Didn't have a problem with it. If it could just be this easy all of the time. Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts and stories with me. Now I am ready to face my  2nd night of no alcohol!  I don't feel tempted now but of course it is only noon!

Thanks Ashley. I don't know why it is easier. I guess I just really want to cut back and am determined. I even went out to dinner tonight with my daughter and some friends and did not order anything to drink. No one else was drinking so I guess that helped. However, I visited with a friend later who was drinking some wine and was able to pass on that. Right now I do feel like a glass of wine would be nice, but since I don't have any in the house I will have some sparkling water instead. If it's not here I can't have it!

Hi Turquoise! Thanks for the invite. I can definitely use all of the help that I can get. I am trying to figure out how to get to the thread for MOGA, but haven't figured it out yet. (And that's while I am sober!) I would like to become part of the ongoing conversation, so when I figure it out I will be there!

Moderation Gang (MoGa) - an ongoing discussion of moderate drinking

Hi Everyone,
I am still soberly trying to figure out how to get to the MoGa site. Maybe by replying to a Moga posting I will get there. It is so good to have people who understand. Last night I used some of the tools in the toolbox and let me tell you, it was downright scary to see what the results of my drinking could be when I plugged in my numbers! And I didn't lie about my amount, so when I saw how many drinks per year I would average, how much weight I was drinking, and how illegal my driving would be it scared me to death! Hopefully I will remember to pull that tool back up when I am tempted! Tonight is my third night without drinking and I am downright proud of myself. (However I do remember that pride goeth before a fall!)  I do have a headache tonight and am wondering if that is a side effect of not drinking. We have a Church group at our house tonight so I will be busy, do not have wine in the house, and am determined to keep up my sobriety. The weekend is coming but I am trying to set myself up not to fail. We are going out to dinner on Sat. night but I think I will be okay. Heck! I know I will be okay........at least for now. Thanks everyone. Hop this gets posted on the MoGa site!

Moderation Gang (MoGa) - an ongoing discussion of moderate drinking

Thanks Camiol, I DID finally find my way here. Our church group is gone now and I am glad there is no wine in the house! I have a desire to drink some but instead am drinking sparkling flavored water. Just not the same, but it will do. My Husband is drinking red wine. I told him about the site and about the tools and he is supportive. He is able to stop after one or two small glasses of red wine. So really there is and has been wine in the house, just not the kind I want! I want to drink a whole bottle of white when I start.Oh well, at least I don't want to drink his red (and it doesn't even tempt me.). It has no appeal to me. One positive thing I guess. Good night. Another night down on my way to 30!
