Confused..

One of my friends quit 3 months ago, cold turkey, unplanned.
When we were talking about our quits, he told me it would be easier if I didn't think constantly about the quit

He says, all he does is try not to think about quitting/smoking.

Well, I have my chantix, my SSC, the success stories I read, my rewards, my straws, you name it. I couldn't just STOP thinking about it, I don't even understand how it is possible.
I don't think about smoking but I constantly think about my quit.

What do you guys think?
Now that he mentioned this, I feel like an obsessive person, but it is normal in the beginning, right?

(please tell me I am normal and he is NOT)

introducing myself

Hi Jason,
I was excited to see another March quitter when I saw the title, then I saw you quit in February, woohooo!
I am soo happy it is getting crowder here!

I am comfortable in my quit, and I think this is it! Only thing I am dealing with is the tiredness nowadays, I can't get enough sleep no matter how early I go to bed!

I am getting a charm bracelet for my one month quit reward. You have anything planned?

Mid life crisis and quitting

Dunedad,

I was visiting one of the construction sites a week before I quit, and we had to climb 2 flights of stairs. I was out of breath after just two flight of stairs. I am 35 by the way. I am lazy by nature, I knew I was in bad shape, only didn't realise how bad!!
There is nothing related to youth about smoking for me, but I am sure the junkie in me will find a way to get in the way again somehow and disturb me.

What the heck is a social smoker?

I know someone who is smoking only when she is playing a card game
I know another one who is only smoking when he is out having a drink.
So yes, they do exist. They link smoking with some other activity and don't look for it in other situations.
They do enjoy it every now and then, but they don't need it!

Becoming addicted is also a process and if you stop in the middle of the way of becoming an addict you can stay there. But if you continue there is no going back, that's why once you are addicted, you are a slave for life.

I think some people (like me) are more open to addictions than others though, so it makes it impossible to stop on the way of becoming an addict.

Alohakeia has two years!

Aloha, congrats on 4 years!

I don't even understand what 4 years behind mean! It is kind of like money issues, one million dollars or one billion has no difference in my understanding, they are both too far away

You are my hero, hun!!

Having a bad day!

Penitent, with you guys checking up on us newbies, it is not possible to slip!

I am going strong. I am finding it much easier than I thought, the fear of quitting is much worse than the quit itself, how funny is that? I understand how lucky I am, and there is no way I am putting this quit to risk.

You know what? Last year this time, my boyfriend (now ex), my brother and his wife, my father and me, we were all smokers. First my boyfriend quit, then my brother and his wife decided to start a family and quit together. I felt I was going to be the only smoker, how pathetic that would be? I gave it a go after them reluctantly with this medicine I heard about, Chantix. I kind of wanted to fail and say 'see, nothing works for me' and smoke happily ever after! Well, that didn't happen, lol.
And yesterday, my father called and told me he quit smoking and it is his first day! it is like a chain reaction, lol!! So happy for him now!

I still have off days but not a big deal. Cravings come and go, junkie in me is talking to me from time to time but it gets easier to ignore her.

I?m just about to cave.

Dunedad,
You know how it is done, one day at a time.
I am away from my home country in the freekin middle east. Things are not stable here nowadays, social security does not even exist. I lost my job twice in last 2 years, losing it again is a constant fear. I am not where I was financially, but I manage. I don't have my family here, the only family I have is my dogs. Above all, cigarettes are cheap as peanuts and smoking is socially acceptable here. Imagine, when I tell people I quit, they ask 'why', I guess they want a solid reason like 'I am pregnant', lol.
See how lucky you are
Don't question the timing. You wouldn't be trying if you were not ready. you will be busy with the new house, physically and mentally so you can even consider it a chance even. It is all about the attitude.
If you are feeling bad now, imagine how you will feel if you fail your quit tomorrow. See, once you are aware it is hard to go back where you are, impossible to be one of those 'I don't care' smokers. The failed attempt will be haunting you. This is one of the reasons I don't listen to my junkie anyway.
You will go through all those 'birthdays and anniversaries and father-daughter dances' feeling more confident than ever, I bet you will be the most handsome father that day plus you will be smelling fantastic!

champix any one tried them

Hi Wigan,
Chantix will not stop the cravings but definitely makes it easier to get over them once you quit. Also it makes the withdrawal stage manageable. It will help you quit, but it won't make you quit so you still have to put some effort.
I am on Chantix too. I thought it is not working for me at first, the taste didn't change at all and I was having cravings. Still, I gave it a go on my second week, that time I failed. Tried again on week 3, and that was it.
Read a lot of the old posts and post a lot. I read the success stories for motivation if I am having a hard time, it really helps.
Good luck!
