Your top 3 - Motivation

David, those things motivate me too.  Lots of similarities here.

Turquoise, your third item reminds me of a recent trip, before I stopped drinking, which turned into a cocktail tour of a US city my wife, sister in law and I were visiting.  Everything was calculated around drinking.  For example, after an hour in an art gallery, "let's get a cocktail" and another and so on from morning until night.  It was crazy, every day for 4 days.

1. My finances (easily $300-500 per month for booze)
2. My health, mentally, physically and spiritually.
3. Quality of life (enjoying it one day at a time...living in the NOW)

Love is all.

1. I want my kids to respect me and not think being buzzed every day is okay.
2. I want my husband to have a real wife instead of someone who avoids reality.
3. I want my life to mean something deeper than "when's the next glass of wine?"

Splitimage, keep going.  Those goals resonate with me too, except I had periods of happiness while drinking; but not the next morning!!  John

The things that motivate me to stay sober are:

1. I like being happy and I was never happy when I was drinking.
2. I'm afraid that if I relapse again, I'll wind up dead.
3. I'm working hard to rebuild my life and drinking would mess that up.

The top three that motivate me to stop drinking are:

1.  Fear that it will deaden me -- literally.

2.  Fear that it will deaden me -- figuratively.

3.  I want to feel better.

Members,

Everyone is motivated for different reasons. What are the top three things that motivate you?
