Do SSRI Antidepressants Stop Working?

14 years ago 0 57 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Actually I wouldn't mind hearing other folks experiences with either switching from Cipralex to Venlafaxine XR or just about experiences with Venlafaxine in general.

Thanks

Hi All:

Well apparently they do "poop out" at least mine did.  I was taking Cipralex (AKA Lexapro) 15mg .  The doc determined there was no point increasing an extra 5mg to the 20mg maximum dosage.   So I am switching to Venlafaxine XR (AKA Effexor XR).  I will be decreasing my Cipralex each week and increasing the Venlafaxine XR at the same time.  This process will happen over the next 3 weeks at the conclusion of which I should be off Cipralex completely and pretty much at the working dosage of the Venlafaxine XR.  I don't have a lot of experience with these types of meds and none at all with Venlafaxine XR.

I just hope I don't go thru a world of hurt with side effects.

Hi Breezin,

This is a great question to ask your doctor and oppinions of other member.  I have read that some antidepressants can lose effectiveness overtime but this does not mean that this will happen for all individuals. Members, what are your thoughts?

Hi:

Was just wondering if over time SSRI begin to lose their effectiveness?  Anyone have any experiences with this?
