Hi ~m,

CBT is effective for PTSD but it is trauma focused.  Check out the Ask the Expert for July 2010 in the Panic Center (www.paniccenter.net).  Dr. Farvolden discusses PTSD and it's relation to the programs we have here.

Myth: Stress reactions to trauma should not be considered a serious medical problem.

Fact: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder that can sometimes cause serious disability. Persons with PTSD often have associative mood, anxiety, and substance-related disorders. People affected with PTSD may have significant difficulty with day-to-day activities due to “reliving” the traumatic event, feeling detached, having trouble concentrating and experiencing headaches and heart palpitations are common. Complications of PTSD include alcohol abuse, depression and panic attacks.
