Can?t Breathe after quitting!!!!

6 years ago 0 796 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Dj13,
As Ashley said, anxiety is a part of the withdrawal process.  It's different for each person. Your body will adjust in time, again, it's different for everybody so we can't say it will be over in 4 weeks. If you quit 3 weeks ago, the nicotine is out of your system by now, and now it's the mental part of the quit that's messing with you. Like Ashley said, if you are concerned about the symptoms go see your doctor again.  It will get better though, trust me. Stay strong!

Yes it can happened after one week or more. Every one reaction to quit smoking is definitely different from the other one. Good luck.

Yes. If you are concerned at all though please talk to your doctor. It is better to be safe when it comes to your breathing.

But can the withdrawal symptoms really be happening at the 3 week quit mark?

Welcome DJ13,

Congrats on getting started on your quit. I am sorry to hear about your difficulty breathing. That does sound scary but it most likely is just related to withdrawal symptoms. If you continue to have difficulty or if it gets worse see your doctor.

Anxiety can be controlled with deep abdominal breathing, mindfulness, exercise, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, talking to loved ones about how you are feeling, eating regularly and healthfully, etc. How have you been trying to manage the anxiety?

I don't know when does it go away. It depends on how your body detox from cigarette chemicals.Breathing issue after quit smoking is linked to the anxiety SO don't panic it's part of the withdrawal symptoms .I hope you have some relief soon and if not see a doctor but this time for your anxiety.

Hello. I recently quit smoking three weeks ago. The first week and a half two weeks was absolute torture. I've been smoking for 19 years a pack and a half a day. I decided to do this cold turkey and the with drawl symptoms have been tremendous. But what I don't like and what I wasn't ready for is the constant loss of breath. I lay here and I'm constantly out of breath. I go to move I'm out of breath. I want to the doctor the day after I quit and he heard a little asthma in my lungs from possibly a cold I had. He gave me an inhaler and sent me on my way. The breathing got a little bit better. But now there's just constant back muscle tightness in chest tightness and shortness of breath. I don't know what to do. I'm absolutely losing my mind Which in turn makes me panic which then makes me even more out of breath. It's a vicious cycle. I had read that quitting smoking causes shortness of breath in people. Guess I'd just like some reassurance. And when does it go away?!?!?!?! Thank you
