Congratulations on your decision...here are a few tips:
(1) Consider your options - e.g. will go be using a nicotine-replacement like the patch or gum, or a medication like Chantix, or acupuncture, etc.?
(2) Read through tons & tons of posts on this website
(3) Work the program on the left side under "Quit Program Tools"
(4) Stock up on sugarless gum & candy, water, carrots & crunchy veggies, etc.
(5) Have a "To-Do" list ready so that you'll keep very busy & distracted
(6) Write out a list of reasons why you're quitting and/or how your life will improve as a non-smoker. Keep this list handy!
(7) Start cleaning your home, clothes, car, etc to get rid of that stinky smell.
(8) Always remember this - You have more nicotine cravings as a smoker than a non-smoker!
(9) Yes, the withdrawal is the pits and can be really hard. But, it is temporary and there are ways to manage it. And, withdrawal is less painful than cancer and/or a heart attack.
(10) For most people, the anticipation of the quit causes more anxiety/discomfort than the actual quit.
