I may need a little help! My mind is strong but my willpower wanes constantly.

TextActually, there's no "may" about it - I WILL NEED HELP. This is my third quit - the first for 18 months, then another for 2 years. Each time I went back I went straight back to about 30 a day. But I'm heading for the big 4-0 this year so it really is time to stop, and my body is reinforcing that message with wheezy pipes and shortness of breath. This site seems really good for support so I'm hoping you guys will be a little backbone for me when I'm feeling low about the whole withdrawal thing. I'll probably end up being addicted to this site instead ... LOL! So feel free to tell me your stories and how it will get better and easier for me - would love to hear from you. Just as an aside, cigarettes in New Zealand cost $10.00 for a packet of 20 and $12.50 for 25's. I see from other people's quit metres that they don't seem to cost that much in the States - are you guys getting cheaper cancer and emphysema than we down under? That seems a little discriminatory ... Hey N2K - I AM very depressed (and angry, sad, grumpy, sleepy and so on)!! I see you quit when you were 41 and I'm thinking "Hey I'm a bit jealous here - I could have had another year or so". How's that for rationalisation?! But seriously thanks for your stories and support - no doubt I'll need it so much over the next few days/weeks/months. And cheap smokes in the States - somehow that depresses me too - like the government doesn't care enough about your health that they would try to price them out of your reach (see how caring our government is ... I'm getting warm fuzzies now ... LOL). I'm gonna go off and try to think of one of those cute mneumonics which will stave off the cravings ... watch this space.

I wish they had been $1000/pack back when I started...because I couldn't have started. They will always be just cheap enough to keep the tobacco companies busy. Hey LightnessNZ, I'm into my 4th day, and I can tell you, it DOES get better! The first day, I really thought that I was going to go off the deep end when I thought about never ever smoking another cigarette. My Junkie thinking was hard to stand up to. Today, when that thought crossed my mind, I said "GOOD!" Not that its all that easy, but I can see the urges weakening ever so slightly. Hang in there!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/29/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 51 Amount Saved: $12 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 59 Seconds: 11

hey lightness....... My family is up in Canada, I'm here in Florida, and I can tell you that "back home" smokes cost about 10.00-11.00 CAN (coupla dollars less in US funds) and that's for the 25 pck. The 20's are about 7 dollars or so. Don't know why smokes are so cheap down here. Not necessarily a good thing....although I know for a fact that Canadians still keep smoking regardless of how much $$$ is costs! (my dad, cousin, and countless other friends are proof!) At any rate......I too will turn the BIG 40 this year (yikes) and for some of the same reasons as you (couldn't convince myself any longer that I did NOT have smoker's cough or wheeze...) I quit. Keep reading here, post A LOT. There are a lot of really cool people and if you read thru the last few weeks posts, you'll get to know them quite well. Welcome aboard! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 659 Amount Saved: $290.25 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 23 Mins: 13 Seconds: 31
are you guys getting cheaper cancer and emphysema than we down under?
I like U already ;) Welcome! If you haven't jumped on 'the road' to the left you might want to give it a drive by. It helps. We will help you too. Post anytime and read as much as possible. -- A story U say? Once upon a time a f/41, quit ct, the first month was her worst. Week 3-4 actually. She suffered some depression but she just pushed through it (exercise helped a lot) and when she came out on the other side she felt great. Now the stray 'smoke thought' is her only negative. She really does enjoy being free of her 'self-imposed prison'. Everything just gets better and better and she will probably live happy ever after. The end. :) ~all the best, N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 165 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,631 Amount Saved: $825 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 15 Mins: 55 Seconds: 41
