Spouse also deals with Depression/Anxiety/ADD

Hi animals4therapy!

You make some really good points. I think you are absolutely right when you say the individuals with mental health issues are incredibly strong. People on the online support groups I monitor amaze me every day. Dealing with mental health struggles is hard. Having a partner will mental health challenges as well can also make it even harder. I think  the fact that you are seeking couples counseling is a very good thing. Your counselor will likely help you to pin-point specific actions you can change and work on together. There are a lot of great resource on the internet for support with mental health and support for loved ones. One of my personal favorites is http://www.additudemag.com/index.html/. This website is for people with ADHD/ADD or loved ones of people with ADHD/ADD. They also have a support group. I find the information for spouses to be very informative and perspective changing - you might want to take a look or get your partner to take a look.

Keep us updated on how you and your partner are doing - please keep sharing your challenges and successes.

I am new to the site and have been trying to read through all the posts, I can relate to so many people and the struggles they face. You have to be a strong person to be faced with all we face on a daily basis. Sadly I'm sure the majority of us will never see ourselves as being strong, which is something we need to work on. I have been diagnosed with anxiety/depression/PTSD & ADD, my husband also diagnosed with anxiety/depression & ADD. We all know relationships can be difficult without adding mental health to the mix; does anyone else have a spouse that also is dealing with mental health? If so what tips do you have for when you are both feeling incredibly low. I find at times it brings us so much closer as we both understand what the other is feeling and thinking but there are times when it just sucks especially when you are both in one of those extremely "Blah" days where it actually hurts to smile, I'm sure everyone thinks I'm miserable as I do not smile often but I find it hard to smile almost feels like the muscles used for smiling do not work. My husband and I are attending couples counseling starting the end of February and with lots of hard work individually and together I'm praying we are able to make our bond even closer.
