All about stress

Hello everyone,

I found this article quite interesting. It talked more in depth about the importance of relaxing and reducing stress in everyday life. It gave a lot of information about what stress is exactly and how it can affect us.

Motivational video

Hello everyone,

I just uploaded a motivational video to my blog. Check it out, it has a few quotes, which I found to be easy to remember, but powerful.

My favourite is that of M.B Ray: "Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in an eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand, and melting like a snowflake".

What is yours?

Myth or Fact?

Good morning everyone,
“Myth: We all get anxious or embarrassed sometimes so you should just relax and get over it.
Fact: It's true that most people exhibit some anxiety in social situations, but for patients with SAD, this anxiety causes significant distress and interferes with daily activities and relationships.[1] Patients with SAD recognize that their fears are unreasonable, but the anxiety is not under their control.[1]”

Exposure Work with NIght-time Anxiety

TexanFemme, glad to see that you made it through the first night, and that it was only the cats playing in the cabinets that kept you up!

Hopefully once you get used to the new place you'll have no problem sleeping.

Myth or Fact

Good morning everyone,

“Myth: You're just shy.
Fact: SAD is not simply shyness. There may be physical causes that contribute to SAD symptoms. SAD can severely affect many aspects of your life. It may impair your ability to get along socially, to do your job, and to perform physical tasks.”

Florida Gator's Football Coach

Momsydoo, it must be frustrating to not be able to find the words to explain to your family what is really going on. You should be proud of yourself for having the courage to want to share with them what you are experiencing.

Have you thought about maybe directing them to this site, and sharing some of the information on here with them? I'm not sure about any books or articles that explain anxiety, perhaps other members can share any information they may have in regards to this, or you could try your local library. Even writing down your thoughts and feelings and sharing them with your family in a heart felt letter could be useful.

Let us know what you decide,

Some Quotes

Lisa,

Thanks for sharing those quotes with us. I also enjoy quotes, my favourite at the moment is one by Dr. Seuss "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you."

Members, what are your favourite, inspirational quotes?

Anxiety attack at restaurant

Hello Wrestler,

Anxiety is often related to SAD. I did a search and came up with some of the symptoms that are associated with winter seasonal affective disorder, (I'll include the link at the bottom if you want to take a look at the whole article), but some of the symptoms are:
  • Depression
  • Hopelessness
  • Anxiety
  • Loss of energy
  • Social withdrawal
  • Oversleeping
  • Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
  • Appetite changes, especially a craving for foods high in carbohydrates
  • Weight gain
  • Difficulty concentrating and processing information
Changing you environment, opening blinds on sunny days, going outside for a walk, and continuing to exercise as you have been doing can help to decrease the symptoms of SAD. It's normal to have days where you do feel down, but if things don't pick up for you, I would suggest seeing a doctor who may be able to provide you with other options that are suited for you.

Let us know how you are doing,

taking Cold meds with SSRI's

Hello Colleen,

If you're unsure about taking several medications at the same time, I would ask your doctor or pharmacist about it, since they would be in the position to give you the best advice.

Let us know how you are doing.
