I am new here.

Howdy Lil!!  You know for someone who's 3 days in you definately are more enertaining than a lot of the past quitties I've known.  This is a sucky time in the quit but it does get better.  That said it's going to take some time before it gets totally better.  I'm not even sure what totally better is yet.  The thoughts are still going to come every now and then even if you stack up on knowledge.  For instance, I've been doing well.  I've spent the last 80 days reading, posting, figuring out the tricks involved by the smoking company, etc.  I had tried to quit so many times in the past and failed I thought now that I have figured it out I have something to bring to the table.  Then last night I got into a fight with my best friend which I'm pretty sure resulted in losing him as a friend and the first thing I thought was "I could really go for a cigarette right now."  Weird.  It's more of a thought than anything hard on these days like the devil on your shoulder...Easily dismissed...Anyways, the first 3 weeks are gonna suck but each day from day one to day 21 are going to get a little easier...Stressing the easier part...Not easy....After that it's more of a "I'm bored I'll just have one" "I'm only going to smoke during my two week vacation to celebrate my quit."  First of all these things are not YOUR real thoughts.  No one is dumb enough to accept these thoughts as truth but we are addicted to nicotine and it's like the devil on your shoulder, talking, hoping that you'll cave.  There are a few things that helped me along the way.  Take them as you will.

1) Allen Carr's - The easyway to quit smoking....Works on the desire to smoke to help with the "I miss my best friend" syndrome.

2) People that smoke claim that smoking helps you feel relaxed, relieve stress, concentrate, handle anger, reduce tension, reduce irratability, complement activities and more.....Any drug that cures everything doesn't really cure anything....

3) When you start smoking smokes tastes awful but when you start it's usually to fit in so you keep doing it.  Then one day it tastes great.  From the time that it moves from awful to awesome something happens in you brain and it resets itself so that your thrown off balance.  Then when you smoke your brain returns to a normal or non smoking state.  It's like wearing tight shoes to enjoy the pleasure of taking them off.

Sounds like your doing well.  You sound like a strong women.  Keep up the great work.

20 days me PM

Congratulations on your 20 days of freedom PM!!!  Not a doubt in my mind....I knew you had what it takes..

The quit works in misterious ways.....I've felt the same way for quite awhile, actually before I even quit....My doctor blamed it on my pack a day addiction and after I had quit for awhile without it going away I started to doubt it.....Now I'm 80 days in and I've noticed it getting less and less prominant over the past two weeks...It was annoying because it was hard to describe...The doctor was like is it blurred vision...nope...off balance...nope...after awhile it's like....well what is it then...I dunno something doesn't seem right....Anyways now that it's beginning to go away I'm feeling better...In the book I read Allen Carr said that some things went away right away and others just took some time when he quit...In fact a lot of the things that are wrong with your body can be attributed to smoking....
On that note two things....Smoking won't fix it which I'm sure you already know and it's always nice to get your doctors opinion to rule anything out...Take care buddy and congrats!!!

Really bad craving day

Hi Pet,

Glad to hear things are going well.  The sleep stuff is common.  They say it's that your getting more oxygen and that makes you feel more rested even though you aren't sleeping as much.  On other quits I didn't know this and freaked out because I was getting 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night not knowing why and perceiving that things were horrible.  This time around I read it and easily accepted it and enjoyed having some alone time in the morning....It tapers off after a month or so....Believe me I'm back to my lazy ways of "Hey, wake up, you've got like 20 minutes to get to work."  lol.

With regards to the real world everybody's different.  Take your time.  Get some time under your belt and when your ready you'll know.  Better to leave the world behind for a few months and come back then to soak yourself in the real world your whole life and leave 10 years early..

Your doing great....We are all very proud of you.

going .. going ...

Hi Lil,

Not too much to offer that hasn't already been said.  You have great friends here to rely on.  The only thing that I can add is despite what your daughter may say she's going to want her mom around.  This time of your life is about you and no one else so the rest of them will have to suck it up for now.  Things will get better and when they do everyone will be so happy you stuck it out.  Take care.  Your doing great.

Some Good News....Thought I'd share

I never told anyone here about this but I was having a really hard time breathing awhile back and a month ago I got a palmonary function test done...It went bad..The doctor told me that I had the lungs of a 56 year old and there was a good shot that I had emphasema....At 27.....Wow...I smoked a pack a day but Wow!!...Anyways they put me on some puffers and scheduled me for an appointment for today....Today I found out I now have the lungs of a 45 year old....The Dr's assistant said "That's great news."  I started laughing at her then she realized what she said and started laughing too....She said I suppose you were hoping to have the lungs of a 27 year old....I told her that I was a realistic man and knew that was impossible this soon but that I just thought it was funny to be excited about being in my forties before I'm 30....Wow too many numbers...Anyways I don't have emphasema....They say there is a shot I still might have Asthma but considering the alternative I'll take it if I do...Maybe I'll get lucky and not have either...

Anyways, besides my wife no one else knows about the tests so I felt a need to share with others and make a small point....I'm 27...The doctor said that if I had continued to smoke a pack a day it wouldn't take much longer before I got emphasema...Your never too young to get sick from this $hit so if your quit or considering quitting don't waste your life always worrying about whether your going to die or worse waste it doing so....Do yourself a favor and stop...

Anyways,  I try not to bring morbid thoughts to the group so excuse my well whatever words....Take care...
