Frustrated!

hello, I just wanted to introduce myself as well. I used to smoke heavily when I was in my teens. It lasted 4 years but towards the end I was smoking 2 packs a day. Then I quit and was cigarette free for 13 years. Although this past year I had big changes in my personal life and suddenly saw myself getting hooked again. In the last three months I was trying to quit on and off. This past week I realized that I no longer want to feel like I am not in control of my life so I bought the inhaler (the gum was a bit useless for me before) and have now been 48 hours smoke free. I know it is not much yet, but like I said, I'm determined. I feel great already. The walk to work doesn't seem so tiresome, I feel motivated to do some yoga every morning again and my home smells wonderful. I believe this time I will do it and be a non-smoker again. Cheers and good luck to everyone out there! :)

Frustrated!

Thanks Danielle, it really helps to hear someone say that. I'm having a bit of a hard time today but that's also probably because I haven't even used the inhaler yet and I've been up for a couple of hours now. The program is great! It really does help to hear positive support from people who are going through similar feelings. Thank you once again :) Day 3, here I go! Getting easier

I just wanted to say it is great to read such positive messages late at night after a long day of cravings. You guys are truly inspiring and seeing someone make it to their 36th day makes me think all I have to do is go over what I've been through another 9 times... it doesn't seem so bad, especially when you know it will only get easier as you go along. Thanks for sharing your 36th day Tony! I can't wait to get there too :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 30 Amount Saved: $9.75 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 59 Seconds: 29

ITS TUESDAY!!!

ok so no as impressive as everyone else here but happy to have made it past day 3. Wooohooo! Happy halloween everyone! Montreal looks sunny and cool but those are the best mornings for a brisk, refreshing walk through the mountain :) Oh it's nice to be able to breath deeply again ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 45 Amount Saved: $14.63 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 36 Seconds: 27

Rough day

I've been having a rough 4th day too :( I know it will get better, because I have been here before and managed through it but for some reason today has been a really hard one. I met my ex in the morning and that always brings me down a bit. Plus in my previous weeks I would just sit at the park after meeting him and have a fag... but today I just ran to the lab and went directly to lab meeting. After lunch the coffee didn't help either and the overall feeling of confusion and lack of concentration is driving me nuts. But hey, maybe tonight all I'll do is go for a swim and reward myself with a long chat with my sweet boyfriend (who's in England). Anyhoo, I didn't mean to say all of that and complain but sometimes it just feels nice to let it out. Thanks for listening (or reading :P) and especially thanks for sharing your feelings... it feels nice to know you're not alone :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 45 Amount Saved: $14.63 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 11 Seconds: 25

happy to celebrate day 5

So yesterday must have been the worst day up to now. The cravings were driving me insane and having a depaneur (convenience store) in the building does not help :P. But I did not cave in, I made it through. I have to say my true friends are helping deal with the weak moments a lot. Every time I'm not feeling so strong they pull me back to reason and tell me how strong I've been already. That always motivates me. I have now saved 20 bucks and gained a few extra minutes of life. I'm excited to get to the end of week one. I can't wait! Honestly though I seriously thought yesterday that each day I was feeling worse. My first and second days were actually pretty bearable. I was so motivated and excited about it that I didn't even feel any cravings. I didn't want a cigarette. Comes day 3 and things change. Cravings started kicking in hard and day 4 was just hell for me. But this morning I woke up refreshed. I got through it, and it feels great! I did some yoga in the morning again, put on a bright smile and congratulated myself for keeping strong last night and not take that elevator downstairs to get a pack of smokes. I feel great! Having a coffee wasn't as hard as yesterday and following it with water does help quite a bit. Now I'm taking it a day at a time. In a couple of days I can say I've been smoke free for a week and I just can't wait to celebrate it!! Think positive everyone :D My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60 Amount Saved: $19.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 33 Seconds: 50

happy to celebrate day 5

Aww thanks so much for the support guys! I does help a lot to know there are people out there who know how it feels and who can help one through it with very kind words. I'm still not sure what I'll do Genevieve. I'm thinking I'll try to take the day off completely even though I have a big presentation to prepare for next friday. I think sunday I'll just take the day off and spend it at home pampering myself. I'll wake up late, have a nice breakfast/brunch and talk to my boy all day. Do some yoga, but stay in my pjs all day :P That always feels good ;). Especially when it's cold outside. I think I am already feeling that confident feeling you talked about. Someone just asked me after lunch if I wanted to go out for a smoke and I was so proud to let them know I was not interested! And I didn't even think twice about it :D yay! Feels good to be strong! Thanks again guys :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60 Amount Saved: $19.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 44 Seconds: 6

OCTOBER QUITTERS UNITE!

thanks for the nice welcome, Martha! I'm a grad student in Montreal, Canada. All I need is to find myself again as a non-smoker and on my own. This year has been a year of great change for me. I'm going through a divorce, but I'm happier now that I'm out of that relationship. Although such a change made me go back to my old self when I was 17 and started smoking as much as I did back then. I am also now in a long distance relationship with someone who makes me the happiest person alive. The only thing is that we are now both trying to quit. I am now finding my true self on my own. I know I can do this and I know I can be both happy and smokeless :D. I can't wait to make it to two years like you have and welcome and support the new quitters as you are right now. It must be a great feeling :) thanks again!
