I really admire your candor and courage to post this experience - and that you made it through. You really are an inspiration (and a warning)for us newbies. The road is not all downhill - forewarned is forearmed. Thank you, thank you and hang in there! Margo

Good morning fellow newbies. Lori, I'm really glad to hear you are hanging in there. It really will get easier with each smoke free day. Mornings continue to be my toughest time but much, much easier today than in the first 2-3 days. For me, eating something right away in the morning helps. This is something I NEVER did as a smoker. Also,I make sure I take that Chantix with food as soon as I get up. Best of luck to all the new non-smokers out there. We can do it! Margo

Lori, thanks for starting this thread. Glad to know you are succeeding with Chantix. For myself, I have tried most every other way to quit over the last 43 years. This time, I'm actually succeeding. Wonder of wonders. The Chantix sure helped me survive the build up to quitting, hell week, heck week and now I'm into the third week (does it have a name? :)) I find myself wondering if I could start to taper off the Chantix. I think I'd like to be done with it sooner rather than later. I would really like to hear from anyone who has stopped Chantix relatively early in their quit. Good decision? Bad decision? I do think I would taper off rather than stop abruptly. Just looking for some advice from those with experience. Thanks! Margo

Hey Lori! You and Starfish are my co-September quitters. I'm glad to have some company on this journey! Have made it though the weekend ok and heading into another week. I do believe that we can really do this. Playing it by ear sounds like the way to go. I will let you know how it goes if/when I start tapering off the Chantix (God Bless the pharmaceutical industry) Margo

:( Oooh Lori - so sorry for the trials and tribulations. (((Lori)))
Criminy, I think we all should get a free pass from ordinary troubles in the first two weeks of being non-smokers. Being a non-smoker is a full time job in and of itself in the beginning.
"But even through the additional stress, I have known that smoking would really not help make anything better.
Just going to not smoke today and hope that tomorrow is a little better."
Lori, truer words were never spoken - hang on to your quit above all else. And tomorrow WILL be better. Take care of you. Margo

Good to hear from you Starfish! Glad to know your hubby is following in your footsteps. BTW, the fogginess thing does indeed go away - I'm a week "ahead" of you and Lori quitwise and I must say, I am now able to concentrate on things that need doing without incessant thoughts about you know what. Quite a relief. For a while there, I wondered if I would ever be able to pay the bills again or finish the NY Times crossword.
Aloha, thanks much for bumping the Chantix thread.
Sully, I appreciate hearing about your experience. Thank you!
I "forgot" to take a Chantix last night and haven't yet taken one this morning. So far, I feel absolutely no different than any other morning since about a week into my quit. (The first week compares to nothing before or since, if you get my meaning). Depending on how I feel today, I may take 1/2 tablet at noon. I plan to play it by ear.

Well, well - just so you know, by noon or so I was climbing the walls, kind of like day one all over again. Took a 1mg Chantix and it is now approaching 1:30 pm central time - the craves are easing a bit but I have learned a lesson (at least for me)- Don't go off this stuff too soon! I think it's kind of like pain medication - better to take it BEFORE the pain sets in. Yours in the interest of science, Margo
