I'm New ... It's Day 2 ...

Hi, My name is Faith and this is not the first time I've quit. It is the first time I've done cold turkey since 1991. All attempts after that I've used the patch. I really just want to get this nicotine out of my system as soon as possible and actually this has not been as bad as I thought it was going to be! I've had a few strong craves (thoughts) today. One was so convincing that it even put me in the car heading into the city for smokes. I'm sooo happy my senses returned. :) One craving at a time. One trigger at a time. THIS CAN BE DONE. Faith :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25 Amount Saved: $12.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 27 Seconds: 42

Day three ... Woe is me!

I'm too busy wanting to cry than to be thinking of smoking. :) The thing about wanting to buy smokes yesterday seemed to be driven by a FORCE that completely took over. I wonder if I didn't live such a distance from the store if I would have had the time for the craving to pass. Well, anyways, I'm grateful and taking on Day 3!! Keep the Faith. Day three ... Woe is me!

Wow, The support and response here is amazing. I feel humbled. Thank You! I won't justify this or give any kind of excuse ... all I will say is that I smoked last night. You can see by my meter that I am back on day one and feel like I have a deeper understanding of the power of this addiction. What's done is done and I feel more DETERMINED than before. More ready to go to war. I may have lost that battle but not really because through it I gained more knowledge of my enemy. What I will do is come here first, post and wait for someone to respond BEFORE I pick up. Thanks again for all your kind words. Hi! I'm Faith and I'm on day six

Hi there, I've been lurking in the background since May and I've probably made as many as a dozen attempts to quit since then. Today I am trying to take an honest look at why I keep allowing myself occasional uses of tobacco and I have decided that this on and off again thing HAS to stop. Today I have decided to discontinue all lapses. I keep reading that until my desire to quit is stronger than my desire to smoke I will not be sucessful. To be totally honest I don't know if that will ever happen for me. I DEFINITELY have a desire to quit. I also have a huge desire to smoke. INSANITY!!!! I'm hoping that as each day passes that my desire to stay smokefree will become stronger than my desire to smoke. I am using the patch. I have tried cold turkey and its not been a pretty thing for those around me. I can't even stand who I become! So, I just thought I'd say hello and make this website part of my recovery. I hope that someday I will be able to give support to a newcomer but for today I really need some support. Hi! I'm Faith and I'm on day six

Thanks so much for responding! You know, I think about all the reasons I don't want to be a smoker ... the one that is the most effective is that I want to learn how to really live this life I've been given. I have no clue how to do that at this point. I've been living behind a 'smokescreen' for too many years. Missing out on so much. There are so many things that I've got no clue about. Like real emotions for one thing. I am really uncomfortable with my feelings. Good, bad and everything in between. I don't communicate worth a crap. My social skills are pathetic and I know it is because it just been me and my smokes for way too long. Started when I was 15 and I'm 49 now. It's because I'm 49 now that I am starting to realize that if I don't start living life for REAL and make this change NOW I can see that nothing will ever change and life will go on as it always has. What a waste of a life! I keep reminding myself to focus on the solution ... don't dwell on the problem. That seems to help. Well, its time for bed now and even though I'm not sleeping well at all, it's one more successful day and that's all I can ask for! Hi! I'm Faith and I'm on day six

Wow John, you're so right! This site can forsure be a great motivator. I'm so thankful for all the replies I received SIMPLY by reaching out. Today has been emotional. I was late putting on the patch by about 4 hours and I could feel the junkie come alive. I started craving ... feeling angry and deprived. Basically feeling like 'poor ole me'. THAT WAS NOT HELPFUL!!! I can't afford to play around with that kind of thinking. Once I put my new patch on I began to feel more centered again. More focused and grateful to be smokefree. Today is a good day to be not smoking! For those of us who have quit in August ...

I notice that there are these little sub-groups of quitters that have these great names for the months they began their quits. We need a name! Any ideas? Here's one thought I had ... The 8/07's. I'm sure somebody can be more creative than that! Don't know what to do ...

I'm not very good at reaching out for help and I don't even know if that is what I am doing or if I just need to let some thoughts and feelings out. I've always been one to bottle things up and I used to use cigarettes to help me deal with the 'build-up' My husband and I have been on this crazy rollercoaster we call quitting for quite a while now. We would set a date, put on the patch and inevitably one of us would fall. Shortly after the other would fall as well and it has really taken a toll on our relationship. Eight days ago we quit again together and two days ago hubby smoked and is still smoking. I am trying so hard not to repeat the same mistake this time and pick up too but I am reacting with feelings of disappointment, abandonment, anger, jealousy, uncomfortable emotions that I really don't know what to do with ... except smoke! We haven't talked about his decision or about how either of us is feeling about it. So I have this huge build-up inside and I thought that maybe this would be a good time to post. I want to cry. I want to scream. I want to smoke. But a bigger part of me wants to get through this without smoking. Would really appreciate some feedback! Thanks Faith :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/7/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 200 Amount Saved: $96.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 22 Mins: 50 Seconds: 47

Don't know what to do ...

Thank you Lady. You're right ... I can show him that it can be done. I can show him in a way that will build bridges not walls. My anger is not really at him, I think its just a part of only being in my second week. You speak of enslavement. That is such a good word. What I am seeking is FREEDOM from that enslavement and I know that as each minute passes, that freedom is becoming real. What I also know is that each time I quit and pick up again it does something to my self respect and my dignity. It erodes, it breaks off little pieces of my soul. I am not willing to pay that price anymore! One minute at a time I will not smoke and gain back ME. Thanks again, Faith My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/7/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 200 Amount Saved: $96.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 22 Mins: 54 Seconds: 41
