I'm new, too

Hi, everyone: I'm very happy to have found this Web site. I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for almost 20 years (I am 42). For some unfathomable reason, they seem to hit in 7-year cycles, last about six months, then abate. I am extremely motivated when I have a recurrence--I have done BT, CBT, medication, meditation, hypnotherapy and, lately, EFT. In other words, I try just about anything! I was slammed HARD two weeks ago when I got a panic attack driving over a bridge--the first time for me--and, unfortunately, this is something I have to do to get to work everyday! I won't even go into detail about what I did the first time it happened; many of you have probably been there. Anyway, I just want to say hi, and let those of you who don't know that you CAN get better. As I said, I have had panic-free years. What I need to lick now is this recurrence. I look forward to getting to "know" you. Good luck to all.

Perimenopause and Panic Disorder

Hi, Dawn: I'm new to this forum (just today!), so I'm a little unclear on the topic title (Perimenopause and Panic Disorder). Did you post the title or is that one of the standard categories? I ask because, at 42, it hadn't occured to me that there is a link between perimenopause and panic; maybe it's something I should look into. Like you, I have had seven years panic-free. Coincidence? ;-) Anyway, do you think you'll have a hormone check? That's certainly an angle I want to explore now. I'd appreciate it if anyone knows more about this topic.

I am new

Hola Nerida, I'm new here, too. I also know what it's like for you. I think that all of us here know what you're feeling--at least to a certain extent. I think, like me, you'll find a lot of comfort, support, and good ideas to try by reading through the messages posted. Other than seeing a doctor for the obvious physical symptoms, have you tried any type of relaxation or deep breathing? Good luck to you!

Living with panic disorder

Hi, Mollie: I'll continue where Palindrome left off: Just doing something proactive (for example, starting the Panic Diary) will make you feel mroe "in control" because you're addressing the problem. I've found that by focusing on doing something--no matter how small--everyday makes me feel better and actually results in tangible progress. Good luck!
