I'm curious about the person who wrote re: sensitity to strong lights and lots of noise---I get that overwhelming feeling, too, in certain situations involving those characteristics. Not necessarily anxiety, but a feeling of being overwhelmed, like there's too much to process---is that neurologically related--anyone know?
I also would like to hear from folks who have anxiety when traveling to new and unfamiliar places. That's my deal---I can travel to many places that are new, if I'm with someone I'm familiar with and trust, but traveling alone to some place where I don't know what to expect at all---it's a control issue, I think, and overanticipating as a result of early childhood coping mechanism due to living in a very emotionally unpredictable home situation. I'm working on desensitization and successfully traveled somewhere I've never been, with crowds, lights and noise, the whole nine yards---and will continue working on it, but that fear of anxiety coming back after several successes is still there......
To Debra: Since you wake up in the middle of the night with them, I don't know your age, but could it be related to hormonal changes? I know of some women who never had any anxiety or panic, but once they got into perimenopause, they began to experience it---just at certain times of the month, and usually in the middle of the night......
Taking a short, say, 2 hr. trip--just for the day, then 2 hrs. return. I was just determined to overcome, and next, hope to go a bit further, say, 3 hrs. overnight, just gradually build up time (distance, and days away). I'm just determined not to be in a self-imposed limiting lifestyle.
