Where is my cough?

The reason I quit was because of a terrible cough. I was one of those who coughed to black out. It went away a few days after quitting and has never come back.

Hi Helix, Congrats on nearly three weeks! Like the others, I did not get a cough either and yes, I had been rather looking forward to it. One thing I can tell you though is that if you get a cold - no cough there either! I've had a cold the last two days and even after 2 1/2 years it amazes me that I don't get chest congestion anymore. I know if I were still smoking that this cold would last MUCH longer and I'd have that lingering cough for a couple weeks. See, not having a cough is wonderful ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1002 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 20,052 Amount Saved: $4509 Life Gained: Days: 77 Hrs: 7 Mins: 31 Seconds: 13

Everyone told me to expect a cough too and I waited for it - but it hasn't happened! I always said I didn't cough when I smoked but my partner tells me otherwise - he says he's noticed the lack of coughing now! I've got a heavy cold at the moment but this is the first cold I've had where I haven't developed a cough too so it's so much easier to live with! Well done and keep going. Helix, I smoke for 27 years and when I quit, I smoke over two pack a day. I had just developed a cough in the mornings as a smoker but I mainly coughed at night, interrupting my sleep. The first day, the very first day of my quit, all coughing stopped and I haven't coughed since. Around 50 Days or so, I did develop this need to clear my throat but no cough. We're all so different. I think I drank so much water, and still do, that I sort of cleaned my system. LOL Don't worry. Coughing may not be part of your quit process. By the way, congratulations on those great stats!! Morning Helix, I had the same thoughts as you, where's the cough?, am I healing?.......etc. A very kind soul here at the SSC told me not to go looking for trouble!!!! I listened and never looked back. Everyone's quit is different (although this cough thing sounds familiar to most here), our bodies are all different and will heal in their own time. Be assured you are healing and will continue to do so for quite some time! Rejoice in the positives and laugh and the negatives, that's what I say! Those 19 days are impressive! Stay strong! Congrats, Debbie My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 190 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,807 Amount Saved: $712.5 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 12 Mins: 58 Seconds: 58

Helix, I too do not have a cough. I never had a cough while I smoked just a clearing of my throat a few times a day. I smoked for 33 yrs., one pack a day and since I quit no cough at all. I woke up this morning with a cold and have a little cough from that.. But I do know what you're talking about. I too expected to be coughing up garbage --- not! Guess we're lucky !
